Germany broke against England with a long ball to Ozil out of a set piece. The ball call to Ozil on the left wing, with a lot of England players up the pitch. Although it wasn't obvious at the time, Ozil and Germany had gone over this before - Mesut chalked his boots, and looked up to see who he was supposed to beat. Before you could say Gaz Baz, he'd been skinned and the ball was in the back of the net.

Germany broke against Argentina with a long ball to Ozil out of a set piece. By now, I'd seen this before, so it got off me off my seat. Some in the room smelled blood, while others looked about with a look as if to say what's the big deal? This time, Mesut was on the right, and he started to look up to see who he was supposed to beat. Before you could say Little Chief, Javier Mascherano, the captain of Argentina, was trotting away with the jabulani. The folks who hadn't sensed the danger to begin with weren't that impressed. Then again, they're probably the ones who were fooled by Didi's lazy look too.

Little Chief covered grass like a thoroughbred to rob Ozil. It was a sight to behold. He came from miles away, robbed him, and walked off. You could see the difference between the midfields of England and Argentina right there. While Barry and Lampard just got thumped, Mascherano did his best impression of Leonidas.

We'll miss Mash. No team can let the premier destroyer in the world go, and not feel an aftereffect. Especially not the team that suffered a similar hangover after drinking too much Xabi.

In one that post . Whatever you think of him as a man is not the point , as a player he has alway given 100% on the field and we will miss him . Brilliant player and brilliant leader (on the pitch .)

bollox, for all we know he was the disruption to the cause. no man is bigger than the club, hes wanted out for over a year, and he'll soon get his wish, and we'll get someone better.

Righty ho then .

I'll agree with you on the effort he puts in Nan, but he's hardly irreplaceable. I mean he doesn't exactly set the game alight with his defence splitting balls or tactical nous, does he ?

He does what he does best though , he covers that ground in front of the back four an breaks up any attack, put it this way i think our full backs and Carra are gonna miss having him in front of them . how many times has he had to cover there ar.ses, Anyone in trouble and hes there biting and biting, . thats what i mean when i say its gonna be hard to find similar without spending loads ,

You can spend as much as you like but he's the best midfield tackler in the world IMO.

Having said that I agree with Dawson, I'm fed up with him trying to engineer a move out. Sabre made some good points about why he wants to go but for me he's still a mercenary. I hope he goes soon, if he's going to give us time to get some new players in with the sale money.

He was good at what he done and I will miss him. I think if it wasn't for his missus he would have signed a new contract by now. Anyway good luck to him.

He is a great player but no point keeping Mash if he wants away. Unless you wanted to be cruel and keep him in the reserves for a while which would be fun. I think Roy wants to replace him with Poulsen. I remember him in from that Shalke- Milan game where he beat up Kaka for 90 mins. Would be fun to see him so that for us maybe.

The one point that has not been made so far about the imminent departure of Masch is the potential it offers to LFC to reshape its game. The modern game is increasingly moving away from the tackle as the critical mechanism for ball recovery in central midfield, moving instead to interception and the use of CMs whose main contribution to ball recovery is thru their reading of the game and positioning. This in turn enables teams use possession as an offensive-defensive tactic. This is the main reason Yaya Toure has been displaced by Busquets at Barca and has had to move to City. IMO John Mikel Obi at Chelsea stands out in this regard in the PL, with Carrick the only English player of note here.

So perhaps rather than look towards signing the 'capenter' Poulsen, or thuggish players like Catermole and Diego Perez, we should be looking towards such players as David Pizzaro of Roma, or better still, re-orient Lucas, who has the qualities to become a top player in such a role.
Floyd stepped left and threw the hook that caught Hatton flush under the chin. Finally, the British champ had arrived in that mythical place of which his fans speak: Hatton Wonderland.

can someone please tell me why last season. We had torres and ngog as backup. Torres gets injured and ngog simply wasnt good enough. So why o why are we wanting to exchange masch for another midfielder. For fecksake we gona start the new season with ngog upfront on his own. I cannot believe no ones worried with our frontline.

Aint gonna spout this hes overrated nonsense, yes his passin is :censored: he neva scores but for me hes the best defense midfielder in the world. Hate his attitude think hes an ungrateful :censored:, everything the club did for him and he wanted to leave after just one full year. I do believe though if the money we get from him is spent wisely we will be a better team without him

He's an incredibly dirty player though.  Not sure if we'd want that in our team.

There's no denying masch  is best def mid in the world. However, they dont win you games. They might save u a few. But, you can get a goodish def mid for 7-10m. 25m for masch allows us to restructure the squad. We really need to so we have a plan a and b.
As good as masch is, we really can do without him. He aint happy. So, has to go. Thanks for the service. A monster of a player when he wants. pity missus couldnt settle.

Don't know what the stats are with him playing and without him playing - maybe Owzat can oblige?

I have always been a fan of Masch but he is a luxury player that most of the time you don't really need. How many teams come and attack at Anfield for example. The problem with Masch is that he will save matches but never win them. Frankly I expect more from somebody that has a value of £20/£30m. The first time Argentina played a half decent team in the World Cup they lost under Masch's captaincy. I have said for years with that sort of money we could get somebody who offers a better all round game. People have suggested that Masch has a similar value to Alonso - why?

He does a professional job but his heart has not been at Liverpool for a very long time. He showed Benitez very little gratitude for dragging him out of the reserves at West Ham. Maybe he will go to Inter and start repaying the debt. For me given the behaviour of both Masch and his agent recently they are welcome to him.
