If there isn't a club somewhere who could use your encyclopedic knowledge in their scouting departement I'd be amazed, and I really mean that.

all thanks to my DVR.  Currently watching an U20 south american tournament.  Sadly its only being shown in spanish.

Some others:  Javi Martinez, Ever Banega, Sami Khedira, Arturo Vidal, Miguel Veloso (could also fill in at Left Back!), Riccardo Montolivo, Daniele De Rossi (probably will never leave Rome, although Aquilani did), Toulalan, Hernanes (was way overhyped 2 years ago, his club had him play out of position for a while, starting to come back into form as a box-to-box midfielder

If we have to save money, surely one of the Madrid Diarras has to be available, and I don't see how they could ask for too much.  Maurice Edu a young American at Rangers (went to University together), looked good in the world cup.  Strong in the tackle, not spectacular on the ball, but composed.  Another American option would be Michael Bradley, he also had a good world cup and offers a lot (understands the game well, aggressive, strong in the tackle, can create and score goals (scored 16 league goals in Holland one year from midfield)

If we had a bunch of cash, another player similar, probably even better than Veloso is Fiorentina's Vargas.  CM isn't his normal position, but he can really play anywhere. Brings so much to the team both in attack and in defense.  He is just a great left footed footballer, and we have a serious lack of them around.

And lastly, if we are really short on funds, Tymoshchuk could be useful.  Another that could play both DM and LB.  And he has great Europa League experience :D

I am a big fan of that Michael Bradley fella

He just does not stop running

Will be very hard to replace . Is one of our trully world class players and finding a replacement of his calibre (if we get the money to spend ) will be extremely difficult

"Yes, he wants to leave the club," confirmed Hodgson when asked about Mascherano. "He has made that perfectly clear. I think he wanted to leave a year ago. He wants to leave now but he is contracted to Liverpool so whether he leaves or not will be our decision.

"He is a Liverpool player and will continue to be treated as a Liverpool player until such a day arrives when he no longer is. The mere fact that the player is a little bit unhappy with his situation and would prefer to leave does not necessarily mean that he will do.

"It disappoints me but it is not unusual. I think in every club throughout the world there are players playing in the team who would prefer to leave. Some are allowed to, some are not allowed to. Mascherano is a Liverpool player with a two-year contract. I expect him to honour that contract until the day comes when the club decides to accept an offer for his services."

EXCELLENT response, well said Roy.

I'm sure he's keeping his head Reg while all around are losing theirs, he's our man is Roy. I'm actually quite refreshed by the way he's handling the collection of wantaways, wannabe's and never will be's that have been left behind for him to sort out. He's not moaning to the press, he's not making daft comments in the media, he's just getting on with the job.

Masherano and people of his ilk we are well rid of IMHO. He's a good player undoubtedly but only in the game for himself in my opinion. I'd be surprised if he's ever won much in his career, and even more surprised if he's overly bothered about it.

Roy just keeps on doing what he's doign though. The Deggen's, the Riera's, the Maxi Rodriguez's of this world aren't what we need. Move em out Roy, move em out.

I agree with you, I am very impressed with the way he is handling a very awkward hand over.

Love it!! :buttrock

looks like Roy and Rafa could be playing hardball over the next week or two! :D

I respect Rafa and appreciate his efforts with us and will always remember the good times he gave us!
BUT he is more aware than most of the financial mess we are in so I just hope he does not try and take Masch on the cheap and patronize our club with a ridiculous offer. He should consider his offer when he makes it on the basis that he obviously reckons Masch is one of the best in the world at what he does and is a "monster" of a player!!

£35m offers and upwards only Amigo or ya can do one....no offence intended! :D

laters

Anyone who follows the global game properly will be hard put to name a better player in his role in the last 2 years...

anyone whos watched him in the last 12 months could do it pretty easily though, he didnt wanna play for us

Wher's the head scratch smiley when you need one? Didn't want to play for us? He was arguably our best player last season. How do you work that one out?

An thats why i cant understand everyone jumping on his case ,out of all the players apart from Pepe last season when Javier was on the pitch he looked like he gave a s.*i*e , he tried , he played he never put his head down he never sulked, just got on with what he does best, im sorry but some of yu lot need to have a word with yourselves the way yous are carrying on , He wanted out last season , stayed and done all of the things ive mention above, im gutted he has gone ,i was expecting last season to be his last one here , but i wish him no ill will , because when he pulled that shirt on he gave his all,
So were ever you go Javier lad good luck,
HE WHO BETRAYS WILL ALWAYS WALK ALONE

I be sad but not devastated to see Mash go. Its clear he wants out so the best of luck to him. He was very good at breaking up the play and chasing but his distribution with the ball wasn't the best. There are better defensive midfielders out there but sadly we cant afford them. He wasn't exactly in Xabi's mold. He will be missed though and we will need to bring someone in.

Just wanted to echo the sentiments about Roy's stance on Masch. You can almost imagine the conversations that have been going on.

Masch's agent: 'He wants to go to Inter. It's warmer there. Everyone at Liverpool has the mistaken impression he was rotting in West Ham's reserves before he got here and he owes the club something, when in fact I distinctly remember he was playing like Franz Beckenbauer and was promised the club would win the league so often Alex Ferguson would wash their boots with unicorn tears'.

Roy: 'He has a contract, and I expect him to honour that contract. I expect him to be a Liverpool player until the day the club chooses to accept an offer for him.'

Masch's agent: (face implodes under the weight of Roy's logic)

Good luck Javi,

I hope Rafa doesn't try and get him cheaper than he would of been willing to sell him for if he was still manager.

Javier always looked happy here tbh and maybe his wife wanted the move, being stuck in a house no matter how expensive it is in a foreign country in the lovely winters we have might take it's toll and there is only so much you can do outdoors in liverpool lets face it lol

but still

Considering he is a hard player on the pitch he must be a pussy at home

:D
