Liverpool vs portsmouth - Play for the shirt

Liverpool Football Club - Games

The performance against wigan was one of the worst i have seen as long as i can remember. This Benitez is fast rivaling the Souness era for the most number of disappointments we can have.

Anyway……….moving forward, it has come to a point that benitez has to pick the strongest team no matter what. No more favouritism.  I don’t think we can afford to keep picking players with sub-par technical abilities and expect to get away with it.
This is the strongest team we can put up against pompey IMO

                      Reina
Johnson     Carra    Greek_god   Agger
                   Mascherano
   Babel           Gerrard           Riera
                    Benayoun
                      Torres

The last time I started a match thread we won……………so no worries we will win again.

4-0.   :buttrock

Can't see Agger playing LB, nor Kuyt being dropped nor Benayoun in behind Torres. I think Rafa may revert to his tried and trusted with Johnson back to RB, Lucas alongside Mascherano, Kuyt RM, Benayoun LM with Gerrard tucked in behind Torres. Should win this, pompey may have high spirits but they are still more or less fecked and they must know it. Maybe some of the so called stars will put in a turn this weekend, although don't we have Lille (tomorrow) before this game?!?!?

I was watching the repeat of "LFC TV after wigan-match review show" .......and this caller mentioned that historically since the premierleague began we haven't been successful at all in monday matches.

He was spouting stats left and right........he sounded like Owzat....   :wwww

So maybe bring down my prediction to a 0-0 or a lucky 2-1 vistory for us....

MONDAY NIGHT PREMIERSHIP

Home - P25 W15 D7 L3 F51 A26 PTS 52 (Won 60.00%)
Away - P23 W7 D6 L10 F27 A32 PTS 27 (Won 30.43%)

Not the worst Monday night record AT HOME, just as well we're not playing the mancs on a Monday. That Monday night home record is only slightly worse than our Premiership wins record of 62.68%, surely we can't lose home AND away to the side bottom of the pile and doomed? I know we have ordinary records in recent years against promoted sides and ones that end up relegated, but surely not that bad?!?!

Draw at worst, probably a one or two goal margin, I think they have a cause to fight for now and could be more difficult to beat than has been the case for much of the season

wouldn't be surprised if we drew this one, or nicked 1-0 or something.

I'm just feeling so low right now

With only nine games left, it'll be interesting to see when  Benitez abandones his "play not to lose the game" lineup for a "let's go for a win" lineup.

If Lucas starts then you know which direction and tactics he's chosen. I will surprise if Lucas starts either game this week.

Mascherano has already come out and said this team needs to win their remaining home games and at least three road games to nab fourth place. Let's see if his manager concurs and puts out a more aggresive offensive lineup from this point forward.

With Villa drawing at Stoke, somehow fourth place is still within our grasp. This team can only get so much help from the external factors.

Rafa needs to put faith in his £20m acquisition, his attempts to play Lucas in Alonso's role have contributed to the results, not that I blame Lucas entirely as I think some of the "better players" need to hold their hands up and admit they've not been good enough either. Whatever happens for the rest of the season needs to be indication of what to expect next season, by that I mean Rafa needs to show he deserves a future at the club and if he keeps playing Lucas and Mascherano together while Aquilani makes an impression on the bench then he may as well feck off now. Even if he starts with it, does he have to finish with the same set-up in most games? IMAGINATIVE managers might actually switch to 4-4-2, Rafa is too "like for like" in his thinking, not that he gives players much time to change games anyway.

Even if we won 4-0 or 5-0 would it reflect a change? It might provide a lift, maybe a bonus ahead of the return tie against Lille, but sometimes you have to wonder if the players don't get too complacent.

Couldn't see Rafa beign that positive.

We will play not to conceed goals and try and hit them on the break, Rafa too stubborn to change anything.

Reina
Johnson     Carra    Agger   Insua
                   Mascherano
   Kuyt           Lucas           Riera
                    Gerrard
                      Torres

If the rumour is true that we cannot afford stage payments for Aquilani then he obviously wont play.

A 3,4 or 5-0 would be lovely but it would paper over the chasms in this club, cannot see it though as the black cloud of doom hanging over us is too overwhelming.

1-1

Well I'm considering two factors for this game 1) Monday night kick off, and 2) Rafa has an awful record against Grant

So I predict a draw tho 3 points certainly wouldnt go a miss
