Liverpool vs Fulham, EFL semi 1st Leg ko 20:00

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby redshade » Wed Jan 10, 2024 9:17 am

This won't be easy, Fulham are a decent side. We scored 4 crackers to beat them this season.

Trent out of both ties but VVD will return.

I'm hoping for a solid win, so we could rotate a little more for the 2nd leg. However considering our fixtures are not bad we should be able to field strong xi in both ties. Got a good break until Bournemouth and after 2nd leg got a beatable FA cup tie on Sat.

BTW Boro beat Chelsea 1-0, considering how lacklustre Chelsea are I'd reckon Boro would be a tougher prospect in the final lol.

Fulham are no mugs, they recently beat Arsenal at home in the league and gave us all we could handle at Anfield as  well, if we aren’t at it tonight we could easily come a cropper.
In an ideal world we’d put the tie to bed tonight but given the players we will be missing any sort of lead for the second leg would be a decent outcome

Hopefully we'll go all guns blazing and win by enough goals to take the pressure off the second leg. LFC 3-0 Fulham (Nunez 2, Diaz 1).

Creativity could be a bit of a problem with no Trent, Dom etc, might be an idea to play MacAllister further forward, he’s probably more suited to playing there anyway, not convinced he’s a 6

Toothless upfront.

I like Elliott, but he's not a forward. And despite his goal last week, Diaz is the shadow of his former self.

We desperately need new ideas up front.

These guys like to score first then defend and counter attack. Every game they scored first they won except one where they drew. We really need to score then it’s on. A couple of almost chances where we didn’t choose the right final pass. Expecting us to turn things around in the second half.

We don't do easy do we lol, trailing 1-0 but what I am pleased is how we don't give up. When subs came on we looked good, Nunez just doesn't have luck on his side does he.
Anyhow a slender lead 3-1 would've been sweet. Wondering if there is an away goal rule in EFL...

Jota really is a lovely player, really makes things happen. Good game for Gomez, Ibou, Bradley and - yes, I'll say it  - even Jones.
You have to admit though, as well as Leno did against him, Nunez should have had at least two tonight. It has to happen soon or else......
And Diaz is on a different wavelength most of the time.
Gravenberch and Elliott very poor tonight.

Good grit to grind out the result.

Bradley played his heart out. A promising player.

Great use especially in the second half of our somewhat limited resources by JK. Thought Bradley was very neat and tidy. Jones is beginning to make a lot of people eat their words. It is reasonable to say that a lot of the criticism has been justified however the lad seems to have got his act together - long may it continue. Nunez certainly made a difference when he came on. Yes he should have scored but once again he gets an impressive assist. Diaz seems to have got his mojo back. Excellent safe hands from Kelleher. Jota continues to really impress and great to see him back to his best. I am beginning to wonder if going a goal down is a Klopp 2023/24 tactic !!
