Van basten slams red! - Hits out at reds career choice

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I was always a fan of Marco Van Basten, and his opinion is highly regarded. However, he fails to realise that Kromkampp is still very new to the league and with Finnan being outstandingly consistant, Jan has found it difficult to crack into the first team. He has been put onto the right wing to solve our clobs problems for the time being, but I dont think Rafa will have him be the RM we need for the future. And Van Basten's critisism is poorly timed.

Holland coach Marco van Basten has hit out at Jan Kromkamp for moving to Liverpool.

The former Milan striker is convinced that the defender has made some bad career choices since breaking into the Dutch national team.

The 25-year-old quit Villarreal for Anfield, in a swap deal that took Josemi to Spain, after enduring a difficult time in La Liga.

Kromkamp played in midfield during the win over Manchester City on Sunday but is struggling to nail down a regular place in the European champions' line-up.

"It is annoying that Kromkamp, who is a good player, made the wrong choices for his career," van Basten told ANP.

"It is sad when someone throws away his own chances and also doesn't help us.

"It seems to us that Jan is more busy with peripheral events.

"Jan has to make choices. I have no influence on that but, if he wanted my advice, that was possible."

Van Basten has overlooked the wing back for the friendly with Ecuador and it is believed he is upset with the player for leaving AZ Alkmaar in the first place, for Villarreal last year.

A guy runs into a bar and says, "Bartender, quick! Give me 20 shots of your best Scotch!"
So the bartender lines up 20 shots of his best Scotch and watches this guy down one after the other.

"Man," the bartender says, "I've never seen anyone drink shots that fast!"
"You'd drink them that fast too if you have what I have," the guy says.

"Oh my God," says the bartender, "what do you have?"

"50 pence."

This article has alreaady been posted in the Jan Kromkamp thread. Not getting on you for making a whole thread on it, but just think it's silly to have one.

Personally, I find van Basten's comments to be bizarre and think he's out of line making them. Obviously, Kromkamp has severely furthered his career in the past year or so by leaving Dutch football. Granted he hasn't been playing regularly, but the bigger the club you join the harder it is to get into the first team because of competition. At Villarreal he was given his fair share of games to start out, but didn't impress enough and found it hard to get a game afterwards. Language problems and difficulty settling in, or just plain sub par performances - however you want to look at it. Then, a chance to get his career back on track comes via the swap deal with Villarreal for Josemi. He might have made a "bad" decision in joining Villarreal when you look at how eager he was to leave, but you could tell that they thought Kromkamp would be first choice right-back when they signed him. Things just didn't work out for him there. I fail to see, though, how it was a mistake going there in the first place and who would have turned that opportunity down. Van basten is obviously very short-sighted with his comments on Jan and operating with the knowledge of hindsight. He just sees someone who isn't getting regular first-team football, and someone who's chances of getting a place in the Holland side being more difficult now because of circumstances. He doesn't think of the possibility of Kromkamp devoloping as a player in time to come by playing at a higher level, and having to maintain that level to keep your spot because of able competition. Van Basten is just worried now that he might have to find another alternative in his squad. It's up to Kromkamp to prove his worth to the first team and Holland squad now. He didn't do that in Spain, lets hope he's dead set on it here..

Don't think you are in the position to be telling people what they can and can't post about. Back in your hole.

I'm in the position to freely express whatever view I want. As is anyone here. Problems occur if people disagree with said view. You've obviously been offended by my simple comment. I don't know why..

p.s. Nice to see that I've gained the name rights to your mother's cu.nt. I've spent so much time there, that it can now be considered "my hole" I guess. I suppose you're right. I would travel back, but I am a bit tired now. In need of a nap to get my power up. So much space to cover, you know..

I find your comments very unnecesary & in poor taste.

Obviously shows a lack of education on your behalf.

I am all for a bit of friendly banter but you have overstepped the line mate.

It is not a lack of education, but a lack of tolerance of being directly talked down to. I won't have it. Especially, not when I never insulted anyone in the first place. If you want to give, you should be prepared to get. I posted my opinion on the footballing side of this discussion already, if people want to ignore it and just have a go...then so be it. I respect people who give me respect in turn when talking to me..
