Returning players are usually very well received. The way Owen left the club upset some, but was understood by others. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't given a very warm welcome, but he's not like Robbie Fowler who could score ten against the Reds and still be chairlifted off at the end.

I would never boo the man to many good memories for that,
but it has to be said that he left the club with no more dignaty than macca did,and I can fully understand how many of the crowd  will not be falling over themselves to welcome him home like some kind of hard done by hero.
better and more influencial players have left the club to move abroad (keegan-souness-rush) but they were all up front about it and thier reasons for doing it, none of the underhanded hidden agenda that we got from them pair,

A very low key polite reception on boxing day will let micky know he never covered himself in glory with his treatment of our club

owen is a legend and if lovein the way he came back every time the press ,bluenoses ,scum wrote him off saying he s finished by scoring in a lfc team that played dreadful football makes me a owen luver

i would cheer robbie back as well but he won't be scoring 10 this season never mind in one game

Michael Owen has already said that Liverpool was his first choice if he left Real Madrid,Liverpool didn't want to pay that sort of money(understandably) so he didn't move back,but i still think Owen has more feelings for Liverpool deep down,which doesn't suprise me,it's where he made his name and came through the ranks to be the best striker in Europe and one stage and all his family and buddies come from there.

He has moved on to Newcastle now and wants to focus on helping us,its nothing against Liverpool that he wants to do well here,he is just stating fact,i think he is a very honest person and he has shown that more than once here with his comments about his love for Liverpool.

Come Monday,I think the eyes should be focused on the match and not Owen,i have said this already,i think there is too much focus on owen and to say no-one likes him,alot is being said on the matter,Liverpool fans deep down still love the guy IMO,deep down,you have too much pride to admit it,which is fine.

It's like us with some of our players we have sold recently,we haven't gone on about them leaving,because if they aren't playing for Newcastle,why should i give a f*ck? thats the attitude i carry.

We did alright without Michael Owen last season, maybe not so much in the league but that is duly being rectified this season. I would take him back but if it upset the balance of the team forget it. I will never take to him though even though he is a quality player.

My feelings on this are quite simple....

It won't happen. 

It's great to see shearer and owen working together so well,but for shearer to stay would be insane,he is staying to do coaching and help the younger players which is fine.

I can say 99.9% that Shearer will quit at the end of the season,i think Newcastle need to move on and change their style when he leaves.

I think Souness wants shearer to be in the team as long as possible so he doesn't succeed him as boss

IMO that is what it takes to be he best ..look at all sports ..F1 ,snooker golf..it is always the most driven determind indivuals that become the best.

I know it is a team game but striker live on goals so it makes them selfish. rushie , liniker , aldo still says it on city every week

He had to carry the team for years. Remeber the FA cup final against Arsenal when Viera p1ssed all over Gerrard and the rest of our midfield and MO popped up twice at the end to steal the trophy.

I have never understood why most LFC fans never felt the same about him as Robbie.

Of course his number one priority is himself, so is everyones. Who puts their employer (even as cool a one as LFC) before themselves - stop talking rubbish.

He plays for newcastle now and has to give them 100%.

I dislike Mcmanaman for saying that his children will be raised as Everton fans- that's terrible.

Owen still cares alot about LFC and if his mates who PLAY for the team are cool then why aren't some of you sad lot. GH was destroying the club and he had a chance to play for the biggest club in the world so good luck to him.

Wish him well (but not this game) and I'd like him to get a great reception - who knows we might see him back!

I think Owen will go back to Liverpool one day,but i dont think it will happen:

1.) if RB is in charge
2.)within the 4 years he has on his newcastle contract.

One thing all professional footballers strife to achieve is a national team place. Its the thing they work for, because to play for you country means you are the best amongst your peers. Why can't a player want to do everything he can to win a world cup medal?

I love Liverpool but the World Cup is alot harder to win than the premiership, and thats why its the most coveted amongst players. I honestly think Gerrard would prefer a world cup medal than a premiership medal. Mainly because a premiership medal can be won in any year whereas a world cup medal is every four years and you only get a chance if your picked. Its a common goal for all footballers, a dream in fact.

Totally agree with that mate.

I think fans were really hurt at the way he left, i was gutted but could see his reasoning and i am not stupid enough to think that a professional sportsman has the same undivided loyalty and love for our club that a fan has.

The statement that he had his world cup place to think about shows he was thinking about himself and nobody else, but at the end of the day when the world cup is finished, if he doesn't have a winners medal, then it will probably be another decision he regrets.
Thats his problem, lets just pick up the 3 points on Monday and clap a returning player.
LFC is known for having respectable dignified fans not like the fans accross the park who will always be bitter.

I never knew that about Mcmanaman with his kids, i knew he was a blue as a lad but for him to still be like that after playing for Liverpool all that time shows a lot about the man tbh. (and thats not in a good way)
