Don't be bloody silly.

Carragher has been player of the season by a mile.

Then Finnan, then Riise, then Luis Garcia and Sami.

Then probably Alonso.

And then Gerrard.

Says it all about the out of town "fan" if you ask me.

Sorry agree with most, but i would definetly have Traore in ahead of Hamann and probably Hyppia too!

C'mon, Djimi is not every1's cup of tea i know(though he has vastly improved this season), but he has done more VITAL stuff through the COURSE OF THE WHOLE season than Hamann, ie; last ditch slide tackles and blocks in and around the box!

Nice one Jmac.. and totally agree with this bit :

"The outstanding performer for me on Tuesday night was Jamie Carragher at the heart of the Liverpool defence. Carragher is 10 times a better defender than I could ever be. He is a completely different player. He is a great defender whereas I was not. My strengths were on the ball, positional sense and recovery pace."

Carra has been outstanding all season for us but Alan Hansen is playing down his abilities in a massive contributions to Liverpool's past glory. He was the steal of the century, bought for only 100,000 pounds from Partick Thisle (if I am not mistaken) and his excellent displays forced Paisley to play Emlyn Hughes at left back. Those days, Liverpool's defence was about about pace, mobility and anticipation rahter than being lumbering hulks who defend by outmuscling opponents.

Carra should be partnered by a more mobile player in the mould of Hansen or Lawrensen in the near future.

It is good to read these kind of words from a former great, instead of just rubbishing the present team and compare to the golden era players.

Carra is all heart but he is not 10 times better than Hansen, at least technically. He still need improving but he wouldn't be too far off now. Hansen has got a good sidekick...the now derailed Lawrenson. azriahmad is right, we bought Alan from Partick Thistle for ard £100,000 and he fits in very very quickly. I remembered seeing him in his early Liverpool career and was mighty impressed with him as Thommo's replacement (I think so...). Sami also had a good career with Henchoz as his partner, as Carra now did with Sami. I believe the centrebacks need to matched in pairs and not just as one individual (as ManU and Arsenal seems to be doing) playing with a cocked up partner.

Alan Hansen, the best player Scotland ignored. He had a terrible game, and Fergie, who didn't like him, dropped him.
Alan Hansen had long legs, looked as if he would trip over them (Traore anybody?) but was still a bloody good tackler. It is called timing.
I remember watching him play, he was described as wearing carpet slippers!!
He was a deceptively skillful player, with a great turn of speed. If Hansen praises Carra, it is praise indeed.

edited bit: He was also an all round brilliant sportsman. If he wasn't a footballer he would be a Golfer, he was also known to beat his fellow players around the the course of the Grand National, when they had a head start,(possible urban myth!)

Hansen was a better player than Carragher. He had all of Carra's defensive abilities but he could gallop up field as well and set up attacks.
