Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Whilst folks get upset that LFC can't compete with the limitless finances of other clubs I think we need to stand back from this and be aware that the mega budgets and limitless wages (36 year old Ronaldo on 510,ooo a week...) the guilty clubs are prepared to pay their stars are destroying the EPL and destroying football.

If you look at the bottom half of the league, it's already set up for the relegation fight. It's sad, non of the bottom 8-10 clubs have the finances to buy or pay players. The EPL is becoming like Scottish football, a top 6 then 12 no hopers just there for the ride. We're driving clubs to bankrupcy as they take unwise risks buying and paying players without any hope of success.

I went to see Shrewsbury play Crewe yesterday. Absolute cr@p. But these lads are on 3-4,000 a week - 200,000 a year - they'd be driving wagons and stacking shelves if it wasn't for football. The gate was 5,800 including 1,100 away fans, adults paying 22 quid and 12-18 year olds 12 quid. I guess kids get in for free. Total revenue? @110,000 but their first team wage bill alone must be 165,000+ a week then add the rest of the squad, club players, coaching staff, admin staff and the costs of running the club etc.. Suicide.

FSG are right not to chase City, Chelsea and United, these 3 clubs are going to destroy the EPL for everyone. At worst they're going to reduce the EPL to Scottish football where 4 clubs dominate and the others barely survive. We don't need FSG to sell, we need the FA to reform before the football agents destroy this game.

Football in England was destroyed years ago Reg. There is nothing new going on that wasnt going on 20 years ago. It's all about the money. Agents, players, coaches, clubs and TV /Media companies. Every one wants to get as much as they can out of it.

City and Chelsea dont seem to be breaking the rules though. At least not every year anyway so they arent doing anything wrong in the governing bodies eyes. It's just rival fans moaning because they have owners with money.  It's just disgusting what is going on at Manure that they can have that kind of debt and still sign players like that on those kind of wages. Again not breaking any rules either as sickening as it is. Hard to believe that they have all that and somehow our wage bill is higher.

FFP was the solution   hows that working out for the game ?. It's at least 10 years in and still the same teams are winning. It has done nothing to help close the competition on the top teams, in fact it has done the opposite by cementing teams at the top. Basing it on income is a total joke because clubs like Brighton, Norwich, brentford and 98% of the rest cannot compete with a global fanbase. Not unless they start winning stuff which they never will because they cant afford the players.  Who designed them anyway ?, Looks like it was the top clubs who did because nothing has changed. It will never change either.

Dont think the FA can do anything either. The Premier league sets the rules and they arent going to impose a wage cap that could weaken their product because top players go elsewhere.

Eventually something like the ESL will come into play. The fans are the biggest obstacle but will have it shoved down their throat in the guise of "saving the game".  The great white Knight that is J.P Morgan is waiting in the wings to help them out as well. Point is that their is plenty of more money to be made and its attracting even more vultures so things are likely to get worse before it gets better.
