Tevez anyone?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby aCe' » Sat May 30, 2009 11:52 pm

MANCHESTER CITY believe they have won a £42million race for Carlos Tevez and Gareth Barry.

The richest club in the world are ready to rubber-stamp a £32m deal to steal Tevez away from city rivals United. And they will offer £10m-rated Barry £90,000 a week to see off Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs.

The move for Argentinian striker Tevez, 25, also blows Liverpool and Chelsea out of the chase with City happy to meet Kia Joorabchian's £32m asking price.

Liverpool's bid for the former West Ham forward was the lowest offer received. Boss Mark Hughes will also pay Tevez nearly £140,000 a week in a four-year deal.

Joorabchian will have one final meeting with Old Trafford chiefs this week to find out whether Sir Alex Ferguson sees Tevez as anything more than a bit-part player.

Those assurances are unlikely - leaving the way clear for City.

Hughes is in the Middle East to talk about transfer targets with City's Abu Dhabi owners and has made it clear he sees Tevez as vital to the club.

City are much further down the road with Tevez than Barry. But they are confident their financial clout will get them the Aston Villa captain.

Liverpool felt they were in pole position after their abortive attempt to land Barry, 28, last summer.

But the Reds are unable to match the Arabs' vast wealth.Barry could yet decide he values Champions League football over money but Eastlands officials are confident of getting their man.

if this comes true then where would that leave us with the whole Alonso thing ?!

Its become something of a given that if Alonso leaves he'll be replaced with Barry in something of a straight swap... Barry has offers from numerous clubs and could very well end up signing a new contract with Villa from what i've heard, they apparently offered him a much improved contract and he's been advised to stay there to help his WorldCup chances...

Even if Barry didnt come here I could still see Rafa offloading Xabi to finance Silva or someone else. I knew these lot would be throwing their money around like there is no tomorrow at some point. Good thing Torres has signed a new deal so that should nip that in the bud. Tevez is stupid if he goes there.

if i was him i'd tell them id only sign if they offered 200K a week... its an interesting project the whole ManCity thing but i think that they need a new manager first and quick .. Hughes is a waste of time and money... No reason why they shouldnt be fighting it out with the top4 for the champ league spots...

When the idea of Tevez at Liverpool was first mentioned I was pretty sceptical about the whole idea, but lately I've warmed to it. I believe we need someone who can play across the front three or take the place of Torres when he gets injured. If I was choosing between him and Silva I'd say Silva is the gamble of the two as Tevez is proven in this league, that said I wouldn't complain about either, even both if it can be done. I know the same was said of Robbie Keane but I reckon Tevez has a lot more in his locker and a lot more desire to succeed here rather let his reputation earn his place.

On the subject of Villa I would love it if we signed him, a striker with a bit of class to open defences up, that would turn them draws into wins over the course of the season. If we did sign two of the three players mentioned it would be interesting to see how these players would fit into a system
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

i th'gh barry wants to play champs league football for real. man city is a step down for him in my opinion.

well, the major deciding factor will be cash. and barry aint owen, tevez may be moved by the money though.

anyway we have limited resource, and we have a ex-"wonder-boy" in the market for free. if we can sign degem, vorin, or some crappy fellow for free. why not give owen a change for redemption?

I find that £42m rumour hard to believe. Tevez would be giving up success, playing in Europe and not even a guarantee of challenging for the league, with every prospect of having to challenge to get in the team. Barry likewise would be giving up Europe and no guarantees of a starting place.

Not sure exactly where Tevez's career would go at Citeh, nothing he can win there he hasn't already. It will be a crying shame for football if players do suddenly go mercenary and join a club for the signing on fee and wages. At least with Chelsea there was some substance already there

What about Paul Ince? Anyway Tevez was never a Manure player he was only on loan so it doesn't count.  In any case who gives a sh1t if he's a Manure player, if we can convert him into a proper red then we need to try and save as many lost souls as we can.  :D

I think this is like where they said they were getting Berbatov before. Anyway if Tevez goes there you have to question is money the real motive here? If so then we dont need that kind of character. Same goes for Barry who I thought wanted CL football.

Yeah that same Al Fahim guy who done the Man City deal. To be honest Alex I hate all this foreign ownership business. I wish it were more like in Spain. Football clubs are just rich mans toys now. But such is life we have to keep pace otherwise we will get left behind. I wonder who will spend more money this summer, Real Madrid or Man City.

That Al Fahim is a freak.  :D
These clubs like Chelsea or City make me laugh. Their fans have the wrong idea that the owners pay for the signings out of their own pockets.
At the end the traditional clubs like Liverpool will be there as always.
