Great to finally have a winger signed... almost at least! Welcome and I hope you make us smile.

Quoting this post, but this applies to all concerned about the supposed pricing..some things to consider

1. As stated, we are not an overly attractive option to the 'star' players, 1 because we don't offer European football and 2 because it is pretty clear since ownership changed is that the relative gravy train experienced at Man U, Man City and Chelsea is not stopping at Anfield...so those people who are financially inclined will not be coming simple as that. Boo :censored:!n hoo.

2. Clearly there is a strategy to move away from European supermo primadonnas and build a core of grafters and reinstill the values of LFC from the ground up, without the disruption of someone like Torres.

3. Look at the clubs that we are targeting at the moment. In most cases we are poaching their best player, whilst the player has several years on his contract. Would we have let Gerrard at 27 go off to Chelsea underpriced? Or would it have been overpriced like Torres? Forget about jumping to conclusions about me comparing Downing to Gerrard etc, I am referring to the worth/value of that player to said club. Some people (like Gerrard) are seen as irreplacable and the gap left is going to be massive, so of course people will milk it for as much as they can and who can blame them.

4. Noone appears to be looking at the whole picture. Relatively these guys coming in could be WAY cheaper in the long run than any of the 'comparably priced' alternatives you are putting forward. Who knows what the wage bills look like for these guys, but my guess is their starting point is a hell of a lot more humble than a lot of the alternatives put forward here.

I could go on and on here, but take the point. None of you really know what is going on, however you were all made up that Kenny was back.  Whenever the owners have been questioned about putting money into the club (remember the whingers who complained that they actually didn't spend much when Carroll and Suarez came in because of the Torres fee) it seems that they are supporting the management team in every instance. We haven't missed out on anyone and we haven't baulked at spending money. For once we're free of scandal, free of rumours, we have stability and the possibility of a long term future at the top of the game.

I for one am enjoying it all and I shall look forward to seeing whether the tactics are working out throughout the season. Forget about in Kenny we trust blind foolishness, this is LIGHT YEARS from where we were last season and hopefully in 12 months, we'll be LIGHT YEARS ahead from now.

One of the best posts here in sometime.  Splendidly put! :bowdown

Agreed top top post   :idea

I have to jump on the ''good post'' bandwagon here Homebooby as that was a good post fella.  :D

However, I have reservations similar to Dalglish and Woof re Downing. I sincerely hope he proves me wrong.

Nope.

can't blame a guy for trying  :D

RAWK seem like happy bunnies anyway :buttrock

That lot would be happy if Kenny signed Titus B.loody Bramble, accusing those of blasphemy if they dare objected.

I mean, read ER's post's in this thread - it just goes to show, conform, become a sheep and leave your own mind at home, it's not wanted.

I know we're Red but I didn't realize it was communist Red.

can't say i'm convinced that 20 million on Downing is the best bit of business....in fact, i think it's mad.  But, welcome anyway lad, prove me wrong and i'll happily east humble pie.

At least we've got a winger...

BBC Sport just said we've completed the signing but the offal won't load :D

EDIT - there's a few pieces on the offal now

Stewart Downing has today completed his transfer from Aston Villa to Liverpool.

The winger, who has 27 England caps, put his signature on a long-term deal after passing a medical.

Downing is the club's fourth major signing of the summer following Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Alexander Doni.

Stay logged on to .tv for the 26-year-old's first interview.

The choice of Downing reflects the philosphical thinking behind LFC's txfers this season. The objective is REALISM not FANTASY, realism based on numbers, hard, cold-eyed statistics, not fantasy....

I suspect the football this season will equally reflect this, but not in terms of pragmatism but efficiency
Floyd stepped left and threw the hook that caught Hatton flush under the chin. Finally, the British champ had arrived in that mythical place of which his fans speak: Hatton Wonderland.
