Downing is decent, and probably has the right attitude, he is not special either, more a consistent 7/10 player every game, but £20m? ? For some reason we are being raped again on the prices. The players we have bought seemed to make it clear they want to join us, so why are we paying over the odds?

There is a difference between getting 10% extra desire and getting players to perform better compared to changing someones attitude and work ethic .

Its a bit hypocritical saying players like Downing, Henderson ...etc will all play at that extra 10% because Kenny is such a wonderful man manager while dismissing other more talented players as risky signings because they might not perform to their expected abilities..

I also dont think that a lack of European football restricts our options so fundamentally that signing players from mid table/relegated league clubs is the best we can do... We've already proven we have the money to spend, and the wages to offer. Not all players who sign for ManCity are money grabbing idiots, some of them actually are excited about the project or proposition of playing for a club and helping them become a top club in bth Europe and domestically..

While players like Aguero, Tevez, Modric, Nasri...etc are undoubtedly almost impossible to sign, players from smaller clubs who are not being sought after as much ( Mata, Navas, Cazorla, Gago..etc) would all imo be interested in signing had the interest been real. I understand that the transfer strategy is geared more towards British players, but looking at the side before any of the deals were signed, we already had a pretty solid base of British players to build on ( Carra, Johnson, Gerrard, Carroll + about half a dozen established young and backup players)...

I've heard 18.5, no media outlet will announce an accurate fee imo. They all have an agenda against us no one will convince me otherwise. We spent a supposed 20m on henderson 10m on adam when both were never announced yet you hear nothing about the money the mancs spent on young and jones. Young had one year left on his contract they overpaid.  Jones was in the region of 20m yet you don't hear anything while our fees are constantly being used against us and our signings.

I've heard (not from the papers) that the fees were 18.5, 13.5/16.5 and 7.5.  Id rather put my trust on supposed ITKs instead of the media but you can believe whichever you want.

We have been down the road of buying players from abroad at the truck full with a mixture of success - time for us to get a good strong prem team and players that are comfortable playing in the prem and have proven expirence in the prem .

Konchesky should never off been bought in the first place - 4 mil ?!  Christ what were we thinking .

Downing gives us everything we have lacked for a number of years and improves our squad and attacking options - yes he is overpriced but it's not our money which is being spent .

Dalglish is doing what has worked for him and Liverpool before in another decade though it remains to be seen if it can produce the same returns in a global market and with Liverpool no longer sitting on top of the food chain. Downing, all the recruits so far, are big gambles, we cant hide from that and the money we have paid is jaw dropping. Kenny has put his neck on the line and gone for it, no messing, but he will need this side to produce good performances and show a real improvement or they will be coming at him from all angles in the media no question about it. This will be his team and hes been backed to the hilt, and its a huge year for Dalglish and all connected with Liverpool.

I was saying the exact same thing yesterday to my bro.

Our fees are being touted like we've paid 20 for Henderson, 10 for Adam and 20 for Downing, when in reality I believe those fees are what they could raise to based on appearances and performances.  The fees they are supposed to state are 16.5, 7.5 and 18.5(? don't really know yet).

But then manure's signings come crawling along and they say Young for 17, De Gea for 18 and Jones for 17, but all of those players will eventually cost manure over £20 million... The media just tries to make it look like we overpay by so much and manure steal all the good deals, when in reality our young Mid was less than their young CB, our winger from the same club was about the same as theirs, but ours was voted their player of the season and had an extra year on his contract, and the goal keeper we're about to sign costs about 1/20th of what theirs cost 

The media love to justify every move manure make, and make us look like complete fools.  You don't hear so much about getting a great deal for a great player in Suarez, you hear about us over paying for Carroll.  You don't hear about us signing Meireles for what most believe is actually a great deal, you hear about us wasting money on Poulson and Konchesky.  But when it comes to manure you don't hear about them wasting money on Bebe, you hear about the great signing they made in Chicharito.

It's absolute bull sh!t and people, including Liverpool fans, buy right into it.  They follow the media and think we overpay for all our players when in reality, we are doing just as good if not better than any other big club. We sure aren't paying 30 a player like city and chelsea.  We sure aren't losing any of our best players like Arsenal look set to.  We get the players we need and we get them for a fair price.

I'd much rather pay the 7.5 for Adam than 35 for Sneijder.  Sneijder is the spanish league wasn't good enough until he went to the slower, less physcial Italian league where Aqualani also had a good sign.

Have a little faith guys... We are doing great in the transfer window.  I have no doubt we will sign a CB and a LB and after that I will be 100% happy with the business we've done.

Quoting this post, but this applies to all concerned about the supposed pricing..some things to consider

1. As stated, we are not an overly attractive option to the 'star' players, 1 because we don't offer European football and 2 because it is pretty clear since ownership changed is that the relative gravy train experienced at Man U, Man City and Chelsea is not stopping at Anfield...so those people who are financially inclined will not be coming simple as that. Boo !n hoo.

2. Clearly there is a strategy to move away from European supermo primadonnas and build a core of grafters and reinstill the values of LFC from the ground up, without the disruption of someone like Torres.

3. Look at the clubs that we are targeting at the moment. In most cases we are poaching their best player, whilst the player has several years on his contract. Would we have let Gerrard at 27 go off to Chelsea underpriced? Or would it have been overpriced like Torres? Forget about jumping to conclusions about me comparing Downing to Gerrard etc, I am referring to the worth/value of that player to said club. Some people (like Gerrard) are seen as irreplacable and the gap left is going to be massive, so of course people will milk it for as much as they can and who can blame them.

4. Noone appears to be looking at the whole picture. Relatively these guys coming in could be WAY cheaper in the long run than any of the 'comparably priced' alternatives you are putting forward. Who knows what the wage bills look like for these guys, but my guess is their starting point is a hell of a lot more humble than a lot of the alternatives put forward here.

I could go on and on here, but take the point. None of you really know what is going on, however you were all made up that Kenny was back.  Whenever the owners have been questioned about putting money into the club (remember the whingers who complained that they actually didn't spend much when Carroll and Suarez came in because of the Torres fee) it seems that they are supporting the management team in every instance. We haven't missed out on anyone and we haven't baulked at spending money. For once we're free of scandal, free of rumours, we have stability and the possibility of a long term future at the top of the game.

I for one am enjoying it all and I shall look forward to seeing whether the tactics are working out throughout the season. Forget about in Kenny we trust blind foolishness, this is LIGHT YEARS from where we were last season and hopefully in 12 months, we'll be LIGHT YEARS ahead from now.
