Nothing bad to say about him, he cost what? 1.5m I think it was? He has played a big part in a lot of wins so he has done more than enough for us.

I’m happy to have him in the squad, but we need better defenders and both Skirtel and Kyrgiakos should be left as backup.

no don't worry mate, i fully agree with you on that! so that makes 2 of us.  :D  don't get me wrong he has done a good job when needed & has made others fight for their place at times which is brilliant & the way it should be.

he deserves an extension to his contract in the short term, but for the long term either way he is a squad player imho. the summer will be very interesting for me, cause if signing new defenders becomes a priority-which could well be lets face it. the likes of Kyrgiakos could well have to accept that being a squad player is as best as he can & should expect & accept it.

Soto looked even more intimidating than usual with that red bandage wrapped around his head.  He also looked like an American Indian on the warpath, an Apache or something. :D

I love Soto. He's effective in defending and can assist in going upfront. Great defender, hope to see more of him.

Have to admit I prefer Soto over Skert.

very clumsy tackle from him tonight,  but it happens sometimes, it doesn't mean that he is cr@p or anything.

I would keep him as a backup player, he is so much better than skrtel

Get Rid hes far too slow and clumsy, so what if he can get 3 or 4 goals a season hes a defender. Whats the point in getting afew goals if hes costing us more at the back. Id rather have a solid defense that say leaks in 18 goals in the prem  that offers no goals then one that gives you say 10 goals between then but ships in 40.

We bought him to replace Hyppia and what a poor comparison he is. Obviously that makes him 4th choice centre-back but his decision making and general oafishness makes him a certainty to be binned at the end of the season. He's about 'Championship' material to me to be honest. Sod off to Preston or whatever....

The Greek has just signed a one year extension.  Is this is a money saving issue?

From what I've read it sounds like an automatic one-year extension based on number of games played that was built into his original contract - so the club had no choice to offer him the contract, whether or not they wanted him:

"Kyrgiakos, who turns 32 next month, originally joined on a two-year deal from AEK Athens at the start of the 2009-10 season. However, written into that agreement was an option for a further year and it is understood Kyrgiakos has qualified for that having played the required number of matches last season."  Quote from this Soccernet article
"Life is not just about money. There are other things, important things that have a different kind of value. Anyone from Liverpool could tell you that."
