The ball sits up a touch, the keeper gets out very quickly and makes himself big, he could have elected to go around the keeper but it was split second stuff. The keeper made a very good save, lets not forget that. If it had happened at the other end with the likes of Johnson shooting, would our focus have been "how the hell did Johnson miss that absolute sitter!!!" or would we be praising our goalkeeper for a tremendous save? I'm not saying he shouldn't have scored but I do think the keeper deserves credit for a fantastic save and i think others would be giving the keeper some of that credit HAD it been TORRES and not Keane in that position.
Mmmmm, I'm glad someone else noticed this. While Keane's chance was the best of the 5 clear cut chances Liverpool actually made all game, it was great save by Schwartzer that denied the goal. In fact the Fulham goalie was one of the better players on the pitch Saturday and made at least 2 match saving moves for his team.
The fact is, despite all the bitching and moaning about Keane's miss, is that Liverpool as a whole were terrible. They created very little from midfield for the forwards to recieve, which meant that both Torres and Keane kept having to drop back all the time to pick up the ball. When they got forward they had very little room to move and bar Torres getting past the defence on one occasion down the left hand side during the 2nd half, they were closed out for much of the game.
But, there's no excuses for any of the team on the weekend. They played badly as a unit and in the words of Rafa "lacked passion". Kuyt's passing was awful, Babel gave the ball away numerous times in his short period on the pitch and Lucas was just Lucas, extremely mediocre. The back four had a relatively quiet game, so there isn't really much to be said there.
Add to that some very bad decisions by Rafa and the day was fecked. Lucas should NEVER have taken the place of Alonso and Riera (who caused Fulham loads of problems down the left) should never have been subbed for Babel.
Liverpool are still riding the luck they've had since the season began. One of the commentators on Saturday said it's been decades since Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool had no goals together on the same day they all played.
I can't vouch for that though, even if it was pretty remarkable that Chelsea and Utd didn't get wins on the same day that Liverpool fluffed the perfect chance to go top.
