GYBS wrote:MCMAHON SALUTES PACHECO DISPLAY

John McMahon praised the display of Daniel Pacecho who inspired Liverpool Reserves to their first win of the season with a 3-1 win over Bolton Wanderers at Prenton Park on Wednesday night.

The Spanish ace played in an attacking central midfield role and was a constant threat.

Gerard Bruna opened the scoring with a deflected free-kick and Jordy Brouwer came off the bench to make it 2-0 when a clearance struck his heel and found the net. Although Bolton pulled a goal back after a goalmouth scramble substitute Alex Kacaniklic made the game safe with a neat finish after good work from Nathan Eccleston.

It was a good start for McMahon’s men at their new home ground of Prenton Park and the coach was pleased with his team – particularly the impact made by Pacheco.

"Dani looked fantastic for us," McMahon told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"He was lively, always wanting the ball and caused numerous problems for Bolton all night.

"It was nice to get the win and I thought we deserved the three points. I said I quite liked playing at Prenton Park so let's hope our winning run here continues.

"It wasn't a surprise to see Bruna score our first goal from a free-kick. He practices taking them four hours a day at Melwood and the lad has got quality.

"Jordy's goal was a great example of putting pressure on the defence and being in the right place to get the rewards.

"It was nice for Alex to get on the pitch and score. It was his first game for us so that will give him a lot of confidence.

"There was a lot of pleasing things about our performance and I thought the tempo was good. As staff we still want more from the boys and there are things we can do better so we will keep working."

I watched that game, Pacheco is a cut above anything else in that reserve team, he was brilliant playing in an attacking midfield role.

IMO we need to do with him what we didn't do with Nemeth about 18 months ago, thats play him in the Carling cup games and give him a few league games from the bench.

For me, Nemeth's career has stagnated a bit, he shouldn't have been festering in the reserve league most of last season and now he's 20.  But the season before last Nemeth was the best player in that league and clearly needed a new challenge.

I think both Nemeth and Pacheco will become players in our first team maybe next season or the season after.

They are both not finished products just yet, particularly Pacheco who although is a brilliant player, it is really obvious that he can improve a lot.

I think it was a good move by Rafa loaning out Nemeth because it gives him time to develop as a first team starter.

I also think that Ayala is showing signs of potential to possibly make the first team in a few years time.

Id love to see the likes of Pacheco and Nemeth as key members of our first team in a few years but as fans we are always impatient, especially when we keep seeing ourselves fall short in the transfer market. I just hope at least 1 of them makes it.

So you must consider players like Lucas, N'Gog and Babel finished articles then, in which case we are really in the :censored::down:
Nemeth has far more potential already than Wash, Babel and Lucas have ever shown.

thats promising Danish reserve team striker Nikola Saric. Sadly, he was out injured for all of last campaign, but he did come over with a bit of a reputation , and has flashed a few nice moments in his limited time. Hopefully he'll show more of an eye for goal in the reserve games to come.

Hasn't looked any great shakes from what I've seen Joe.

His hold up play is decent.

I think these days you need to stand out at that level to have any chance of breaking into the first team of a top four club in the Premiership.  Fact is most of these lads can forget about it, which is sad.

A couple of seasons back (the year we won the reserve league) I reckoned Insua, Plessis and Nemeth stood out at that level.  Spearing was better than average.  Plessis struggled with the step up and Insua is holding his own, only just imo.  Unfortunately for Nemeth last season was wiped out by injury pretty much.  So even standing out at that level doesn't guarantee progression to the first team.

Of this current reserve group, Pacheco stands out a mile.  The keeper Gulacsi looks decent and Ayala and Bruna look like they are certainly above average.  Realistically though I can only see Pacheco and perhaps Ayala having a realistic chance of progression to the first team squad.

The point is though, I think guys like this Saric should move on.  If you're not a stand out at that level now you have no chance at this club.  These types of lads should be getting advised to move on for the sake of their careers.

the last match was his first start at reserve level FFS, and I imagine that coming back from a whole season out injured still takes a bit to work out ALL of the cobwebs.  I think its waaay to early to judge on him, he comes very highly rated in the Danish youth camp at the various levels of international youth footy.  Look at how much Pacheco has improved since he has come, same with Ayala.  Saric is still only 18 years old.  Maybe we should let him play 2 or 3 reserve games before we write him off completely.
