You said Rafa wasn't the right man for the job, you wanted Allardyce or Curbishley, your judgement's shocking. Probably a decent player then...

Reds close in on Victor swoop
By Francisco Acedo -  Created on 27 Jan 2006

Liverpool are poised to follow up the capture of Robbie Fowler with the signing of Deportivo La Coruna winger Victor.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez has made no secret of his desire to bring in a winger during the January transfer window and had been linked with a host of names.

Benitez has seen moves for Atletico Madrid's Luciano Galletti and Benfica's Simao Sabrosa hit the rocks, prompting the Spaniard to switch his attentions across La Primera to Depor.

The Reds are close to striking an accord with Depor and Victor has not made the trip to Madrid for the weekend clash with Atletico.

Victor, who has recently returned to fitness following a thigh injury, is expected to head to Merseyside on Sunday to discuss terms and undergo a medical.

A three-and-a-half-year deal is set to be put on the table and Benitez will hope to wrap up the transfer before the window slams shut on Tuesday.

Victor has class in abundance, having turned out for Real Madrid in the past, and Benitez will hope the 29-year-old can add some attacking thrust to his side.

What are you on about you fool ?

That sort of behaviour is unnecessary and way out of line. I will not oblige you with an answer, until you are capable of an apology and refrain in future not to use obscenities to people on this forum. Enough is enough, you are behaving like a manc supporter. Let's see how much of a man you really are with your response.

We must discuss against the enemy, not among us.

I missed this bit before for a player like Victor (29-30) a 3 and a half year contract in a big club is a full strike of luck, not usual in my book. I guess it means Rafa IS really confident on what Victor can provide. Certainly I think that Victor will be useful and that Gerrard will return to the middle and we'll have a strong midfield, but 2 years would be probably enough? with 31 years I don't think it would take much to get a renewal of the contract with him.

But then, I'm not Rafa, what do I know?

That article is from over a year ago it says. I didn't know Rafa had been interested for so long. I remember talk of Tristan, but not Victor. Anyway, Rafa clearly rates him highly. Wanted him at LFC from the beginning it seems.

Ah Tristan. What a waste of a player. I have seen few more talented than him, but then, he didn't struggle to be a world class player :( I loved the features of this striker from the very beginning in the liga, but it seems as if he stucked and it seems to me (I can be wrong, what do I know) that it's because he doesn't fight. When you go weekly to the Stadium since you're a lad, there are some games that are boring and you just watch some away players and their attitude. In the TV you cannot see that. And I've seen Tristan walking when he should press, and moaning when he should stand up. Talking to the press when he should shut up. It really písses me off because he has the talent.

Now that I think of it Valeron hasn't improved that much in Deportivo. Great passer and playmaker, a footballing brain that I don't know why right now he doesn't deserve to be in the national squad. And he has the class to be.

I don't know what's wrong in that team. They had a good coach, Irureta, and they had lot of troubles and quarrels in the squad. Those are well known facts, no matter some idiot comes here to say that's wrong :)

</end of rant about Deportivo>

ACCORDING TO THE LOCAL PRESS (SERIOUS ONE) OF SAN SEBASTIAN.

NEWS

Deportivo and Liverpool has broken negotiations over Victor and Mark Gonzalez. Well to be honest, they know at least GOnzalez won't be part of the deal because the deal with Real Sociedad has been resumed (they have contacts with RS board) and are very close to be finnished. According to the press though, the deal was a swap, and this has been turn down for unknown reasons.

Source for Spanish speakers, online translators:

http://canales.diariovasco.com/betierr....005.htm

But in a nutshell what they say is what I've already said.
What a thriller! :O I don't know what will happen. I'll Keep you posted.

The reliability of this press is high, if they say Liverpool is finishing negotiation with Real Sociedad, is because they are. What I don't know is the Victor bit. According to the press, Liverpool intended the swap, and they say the swap has been turn down. I don't think they have means to know wether now Liverpool will pay money for Victor or not, but at least the swap has been turn down.
