Rafa bid for solari

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Ciggy » Sun Jan 23, 2005 11:49 am

Another Real player at anfield?

Its been reported today that Liverpool have offered Real Madrid's left-sided midfielder Santiago Solari a pre-contract despite strong interest from Manchester United and Inter Milan.

The 28-year-old Argentinian is out of contract in the summer and is free to discuss a possible move now and it is suggested that manager Rafael Benitez sees Solari as the ideal candidate to replace Kop flop Harry Kewell.

Solari has made it clear that he would like to leave Spain to test himself in the Premiership but will he opt for Old Trafford or Anfield, if he sticks to his word?

For football he would probably choose Man U, but then again he would be behind Giggs and if he leaves real it will be because he wants to start more games which would work in our favour, plus we have benitez and a spanish speaking contingent and he would be with international teamate Perrelgrino (sp?) so I really hope, if this is true, that he opts for Anfield.

I have seen a bit of him playing recently, he looks a good player would be a good signing for us.

Absolutely agree. We are hurting for a centreback. Jean Alain Boumsong is the ideal candidate previously. Unfortunately he snub us for Celtic (or is it Rangers) and now he's at Newcastle. Wondering what is he thinking??

Agree totally. A wobbly defence does not give players in the middle of the park to function optimally. Our midfield of Kewell, Gerrard, Alonso, Hamann, with Riise and even Garcia dropping by at times look quite the part of a formidable team (i dunno abt nunez tho, think rm needs some rethinking.) However, our defence unfortunately does not impose themselves enough. We are too prone to silly giveaways and inconsistencies that, well, does not reflect top-class players.

Apart from Carra, I can't see any others having that quality. Yes... even Hyypia. Defo not Josemi or Traore. Finnan is quietly efficient but somehow not the most convincing keeping pacy wingers in check. Warnock is unproven and needs time to mature. From the display over the last two games, Pelle does not look the part of his supposed pedigree. So even with every soul fit, we at most look the part of a second rate unit in the premiership (Can't see Manure, gooners and chelski taking any of them!!). Surely that must be alarming for Rafa??

I'd loved to have posted my first post on a high note, but after watching the soton match, I could only rant...

Sounds an excellent signing, him and Kewell fighting for the left wing slot.....competition is what Kewell needs to improve his game ..........it can only benefit the team as a whole
