Players you have been impressed with? - In pre-season.

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Just found this on RAWK                                                                                Which player has impressed you most during our pre season games?

For me Reina appears to be a superb signing.

His distribution is sharp and usually the right choice. He appears to have a good footballing brain, never waiting for ages to choose the right area/player to play the ball to.

He commands the penalty area, and when he shouts for the ball, all around him hear him coming.

When he comes for a cross, if he has to punch, he makes sure the ball goes a long way to give the defence time to re-position.

I know he hasn't been tested against top quality opposition yet, and the pace of a premiership game demands the highest level of concentration, but I do think we have signed a great goalkeeper.

We have searched for years to find "the next" top quality goalkeeper, is the search over?

I don't think I can single it down to just one as there have been a lot of impressive performances in this pre-season. Zenden looks lethal and is going to give us a lot of assists this season. It's so nice to have a natural winger after so long without one. Reina does look good, if a little rusty, but his confidence is emense and hopefully contagious. You could see in the Kaunas game that Hyypia and Carragher were trying to cover for him, even though he was OK, because they're so used to dealing with Dudek. Sissoko looks very strong and very busy, Stevie is a Man on a Mission, Cisse has re-discovered his strikers touch, Whitbread and Potter are coming along nicely and all the usuals are looking in good form. Things are looking up. :)

Milan Baros as he doesn't score goals in matches we need him to but very strangely does find the net very often in pre-season :D

I have to say that I have been very impressed with Reina even though he hasn't been tested very thoroughly as yet. What he has had to deal with he has done so very well and he's a very decisive keeper with good distribution which is a good thing.
Also, he has a very confident air about him. The guy just looks as though he's very confident and that should filter through to the back four and hopefully in turn give them more confidence.

Have also been quite impressed with Crouch. Has proved to be fairly effective already although I would have liked to see him paired with Baros at some stage to mirror the Czech partnership of Baros and Koller to see how that works out.

Whitbread is looking promising, and from what I've seen, I'd say Sissoko looks fairly promising also.

Reina has impressed me so far. I think he commands his area with confidence which is something we never really had with Dudek, he also seems to deal confidently and strongly with any crosses or high balls that come near him.

Cisse has also impressed me so far he is quick and has a good eye for goal, i think he will play well alongside crouch once the get to know each others game, will also play well alongside Nando. I think Cisses is a cert for our top scorer of the season if he stays fit.

Zenden looks very very promising i think he will do a very good job for us this year popping in a few goal and a lot of assists

Gerrard and Carra have prefromed well and are maintaining their high standards.

All in all i am looking forward to the start of the season and am confident that LFC will win some silverware

I'm worried ,I haven't been impressed by anybody.Perhaps against better quality opposition the lads might step up a gear . I know it's early days etc etc but as someone pointed out in another thread ,last night was our sixth game and there was a decided lack of sharpness within the team .Cisse could have had at least four ,got one . Sammi was embarrassingly skinned for the oppo's first goal . Zenden and Riise bossed the left side but produced bug'ger all, over on the right Potter and Josemi looked as though it was the first time they'd seen a football . Everyone else appeared to be playing in a "friendly" not a CL qualifier against decidedly inferior opposition. I don't think fitness is the problem I think it's attitude ,and it needs to be sorted.

Of the established players, hard to see past Gerrard and Alonso.

As well as his goals, Steven seems to have performed in a much more controlled fashion. He is much more effective in that mode when he does the simple things very well and doesn't try to be too fancy. As for Alonso, he just never has a bad game.

Of the new players,  have to say all have shown some quality in patches although I agree that the standard of opposition needs to be taken into account. I especially look forward to the options Crouch will give to us, and based on his appearances so far I see some promise. Zenden is a great utility player, although I still have reservations about him as a wide left.

To be honest, the player I'm most looking forward to seeing is Gonzalez and he's not even fit yet.

so far we have only played in friendlies and backwater clubs. when we played against tougher opposition then we will see our new recruits true colours. anybody remember the josemi thread?

i have between impressed by xabi alonso and gerrard. them two can be a class act in the middle of the park this season. cisse has shown glimpes of what he can do. impressive debut from crouch aswell, i really do think he will prove to be a very good buy later on in the season.
of the rest of the new signings i have been impressed by zenden, i think he adds REAL width which we have lacked. i have also been impressed with sissoko, he has shown his determination and enthusiasm on the pitch. which we really need. there is still much more to come from this lad....i can tell!

Gerrard and Alonso have been superb in pre-season, haven't looked rusty at all.  Those of you who said those two can't play together are going to end up looking very silly indeed by the end of this season I think, they complement each other perfectly.  Cisse is starting to look more like what we thought we were getting when we bought him.

Out of the youngsters, I like Whitbread.  Solid, strong in the tackle and looks like he reads the game well (which is the most important defensive attribute).  Needs to work on his aerial ability, but I see good promise there.  Warnock continues to impress and will get a lot of games this season.

Of the new signings, can't really comment too much on Reina yet as he's not been called into action all that often.  Zenden looks like giving good width and hits a decent cross, very good signing.  Too early to say yet for Crouch also, but I think he just might do the business.

Have to say I have been very impressed with Sissoko.  Strong, good in the air, good in the tackle, full of running, reads the game well, good positional sense.  Passing needs to be worked on but at 20 yrs of age I think we could have a top player on our hands here.  I love his combative style of play, he is perfectly suited to the premiership.
