Player options in summer....who!??

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Rasmus Elm the lad who plays for AZ Alkmaar looks decent he could be the playmaker we need that would be more consistent week in week out compared to Adam. We also need a right winger to compliment Downing if we are retaining Downing long term. I don't know if Jarvis or someone like him is the answer maybe Ramirez will come. I would hope we'd be looking at bigger striking targets than Holt. De Jong is a possibility if he wants to come to Liverpool.

i doubt it will be anywhere near that figure, he said himself today in an interview that he hasnt got a wheelbarrow full of cash to spend.
i think between £20m and £30m is a more realistic prospect myself.

Its a cruel world when thirty million quid isnt considered alot of money yet when I empty my pockets all I have is a stick of wrigley's spearmint gum, a toy soldier and a Panini sticker of Marco Gabbiadini

So if he does get 30 million, should he spend it on one recognized player, or two less recognized players?

he said himself that he might want to bring 2 or 3 in or maybe even more so i dont really expect to see any marquee signings mate. i think we`ll see a couple of signings around the £10m mark myself. this icelandic fella could be one of them, i mean who goes on holiday halfway through a transfer? i think he`s just spinning swansea a line to buy himself a bit of time so his agent can have a word with brendan.
as far as i`m concerned i think we need `game changers` like suarez more than we need squad type players, i think we need another player to come in and have the same impact on the team as luis has. i`d go for a £20m+ signing if it was me.

I fully expect us to sign Sigurdsson...his transfer with Swansea is on hold and, for 6 million, he would be a good signing.

Siguardsson was the creative force behind Swansea.

Adam wasnt even their player of the season - that was Vaughan - Adam played in a few free kicks.

Blackpool were relelgated with Adam - Swansea werent with Siguardsson

True that, Jamie Redknapp said that the transfer may be the first that Liverpool make and that Sigurdsson wouldn't look out of place one bit in a Liverpool shirt.

I actually prefer that we buy 2 or 3 talented players at the 10 million pound mark. I feel like that's where you can often get real quality if you have a good eye for spotting a player. Look at Arsenal's purchases of Chamberlain for instance, or Arteta as well or Man United's Hernandez or Newcastles' lot of players.

Plus, anything over 15 million usually puts the player as well under too much pressure.

Fenways idea was always to find value in the market and build a stylish
young team were individuals would grow into superstars and be worth big
money.

At this point there is no point pursuing the hot properties with huge transfer
fees but we can attract very good players who have the ability to become
stars in Liverpool shirts.

If there is anything left at the top end of the spectrum then it may be worth
investing, and sometimes there are players that want to play and be the star
(for example Suarez) who still find Anfield an attractive destination.

I would think the first job for Rodgers is to find the key pieces he needs to play
his own system and get the best he possibily can in those positions, so I guess
that will be a puppet master in midfield that controls the game and a winger/forward
with pace to mention two.

Sunday’s tabloids are full of transfer speculation, with Liverpool heavily featuring following the arrival of Brendan Rodgers this week.

While an agreement has been made with Rodgers’ former club Swansea that means Liverpool won’t sign players from the Welsh side for the next 12 months, one player who played a big part in the Premier League side’s debut season but isn’t officially a Swansea player is linked with a move to Anfield.

Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson was set for a permanent switch to the Liberty Stadium but Rodgers has admitted he would be interested in the Hoffenheim player if he doesn’t agree personal terms with the Swans.

“If he comes onto the market, I have to be interested,” explained Rodgers.

“His initial chat has to be with Swansea, because he had a good period there. I said when I had the chat with the chairman (Huw Jenkins) the other day, when I told him I was going to go to Liverpool, that Gylfi came to Swansea because I was there as manager.”

Meanwhile, there are reports that players could move between the two sides if the deal suits both parties. So a big bid for midfielder Joe Allen could still persuade Swansea to part company with their academy graduate.

Fulham forward Clint Dempsey, who only has a year left on his contract at Craven Cottage, continues to be linked with a move to Anfield. The Daily Star reports £4m could be enough to see him head north.

While Dirk Kuyt has discussed his likely departure from Merseyside, admitting he has held talks with Feyenoord “There are many clubs who are interested,” the 31-year-old told NUsport. “Not only from England, also from Germany, Spain and Italy.”

“I have had several conversations with Feyenoord but we were unable to agree,” said the Dutchman.

The Metro reports that Kuyt could be part of a swap deal for Fiorentina’s Juan Manuel Vargas. The Peruvian midfielder has been linked with Liverpool and scouted regularly over the last year.

Rodgers said on Friday that he would be sitting down with the club’s scouts to discuss players immediately.
