i think these types of signings are probably more likely than the big money marquee types.
dalglish said in the echo yesterday that although 1 or 2 might leave on their own accord there are no plans to sell any player and he his happy with the squad.
i cant see us spending £20m + on a player(s) without trying to move some players on to offlay the cost of the spending spree. if we are not planning to move players on i cant see big money signings coming in.
i think the club are thinking that if we get everyone back fit and maybe even aquilani returns that the squad isnt actually that bad, if we start next season with lucas, gerrard, aquilani, henderson, adam etc as our pool of centre mid`s thats actually quite decent. what f***** us up this year was that gerrard missed the first half of the season, lucas practically missed all of it and aquilani only played in pre season. we`ve been playing with a reserve team centre mid for a lot of this season and thats not going to happen again even if we dont sign anyone.
i think we`ll bring 2 or 3 in but they will be like this diame fella, i`m not saying it will be him but it will be that type of signing, i dont think there will be any stellar names.

All of these rumours are dampening my spirits for the summer transfer window. We need more investment into the team, that's evident. If we do not get this investment and it isn't spent wisely then next season will be very similar to this season.

We lack genuine quality in midfield, we cannot keep relying on a 32 year old midfielder and this club seems to think that Aquilani will want to stay here. After the way this club has treated Aquilani I wouldn't come back here if I was him. We also need a striker and a right winger.

Signings like Diame from Wigan are not what I want to see, that's embarrassing and with signings like that we'll never become a top four side again.

Midfield getting taken apart (again) by Swansea.

Utterly imperative we bring in one top top central midfielder to start.

We cannot allow another season where we get dominated routinely in the center of midfield. We are loose as f**k in there. Completely disjointed.

Three years on and we have yet to bring in an adequate replacement for Alonso which has had a damning effect on Gerrard who has been forced back deep to get the ball, taking him away from his best position in advanced midfield.

A finisher is imperative, but even more so a top central midfielder. Our central midfield is w**k.

The entire midfield needs gutting tbh. The only ones I would keep are Gerrard, Lucas and Henderson.

Only Gerrard and Lucas are first team calibre. Henderson looks nowhere near ready and if we keep him, as i expect, then we give him the odd 15 minutes here and there, as well as appearing in Europa and League Cup games etc, and hope he develops massively.

We are short one first teamer central midfielder to go alongside Lucas, hence it should be a top priority in the summer. Our midfield has never been as bad as this. Swansea have outplayed us home and away in there.

if aquilani returned he`d help the situation, but i agree with your general point, if there is one type of player we are desperately in need of at the moment it`s a centre midfielder who can dictate play. we also need a wide player who can go past a man but the CM is more of a priority imo.

I think Aquilani will request a transfer away from Anfield.

with only a year left he probably doesnt want to sign a contract with any club. becoming a free agent is the most lucrative thing for good players because the lack of a transfer fee means all the money goes on wages, a bit like the joe cole situation with us.
he might want to just see out next season with us and then cash in.

Forget Aquilani, the guy was never the answer and was easily Rafa's worst buy. Hes a lazy, injury prone bit part player at every club hes been at.. Roma, us, Milan.. there is also a reason that no Italian club (who know more about him than any English side) are interested and would pay more than 4m, there is a reason that he was loaned out again by us.

Its a question of ambition... do we aspire to be good again? .. or are we now rooted in mediocrity that average/sub par players are now acceptable?

We spent over 110 million and bought one truly top class player that is befitting of a title/top 4 challenging side, Kenny squandered the rest on the very players who should be unacceptable at this club but as each year passes and mediocrity sets in they are becoming acceptable. We are getting used to mediocrity that its becoming more entrenched in the mentality of quite a few and is now acceptable. The demands and expectations are being lowered by such fans as each season passes and money squandered that there is an acceptance. Spearing puffs his cheeks and runs 5 yards after a player in a game.."well done Jay lad" is now the call among a few. For those of us with ambition and standards, seeing his ilk wearing a Liverpool shirt is depressing.

In one way it would be a good thing, a healthy thing, if Dalglish was fired, as then it would remove the skewed biased emotional assessment of the manager. It was my concern when he was appointed that poor results/signings would be excused because of who he is... a special dispensation afforded to him at the detriment of the club. It has certainly been a factor among those with a rose tinted attachment to the manager.

AS i have said once and i will say again we do not need a massive overhaul. Our squad isnt bad we just need 1 or 2 additions to the line up and 1 or 2 squad players.

Remember we have created the second most in the league and have hit the post/bar more than anyone else. Put that with the fact Lucas has missed so much of the season. With Gerrard picking up so many injuries then top that off with Suarez missing 9 games through suspension.

Id be much more happier to make sure we keep the likes of Johnson Agger Skrtel and Suarez then selling these to bring in another 7 or 8 players

We need two or three quality signings.  The problem is... who do we get when we have no CL and had our worst PL season in years?
Our scouts need to find quality players that maybe aren't too well known.

Do me a favour guys when you say we need a certain signing tell me where he would fit in with our starting 11 as for 3 there is only 2 spots for grabs CM and a Winger

There is no such thing as a starting 11 now

It's all about options and we lack a few

Main ones are a right sided midfielder , a creative centre mid and a goal hanger ( scorer ).

We also need better options waiting in the squad

Another DM , a left back as well

Im guesing no one has a problem with our back 5 and lucas so that leaves 5 places up for grabs. Constant talk about us missing Stevie this year so put him in their along with Luis Suarez that leaves 4 places couple of wide players and a Striker. Recently Carroll has played really well and isnt going to get better unless he plays regularly and why not he looks like he has formed a partnership with Luis so i think he deserves a place in our first 11. That leaves 2 now we currently have no width but theres talk people want a cm to dictate a game. OK so saying we play.

                                                                                 Reina
Johnson                                            Skrtel                                Agger                      Enrique

                                                                Lucas                         Diame

                                A.Johnson                                                                       Gerrard

                                                         Suarez                              Carroll

Any problems with that. Diame is a free and im not sure how much johnson would cost.

We could then have options of Hendo Adam Downing Bellamy If they all stay. All players that CAN have impacts plus Moses will be looking to quit Wigan a very cheap option and an up and coming talent.

Relatively spent hardly anything especially if the likes of Kuyt Maxi Aqualani and J.Cole are sold

i just hope we get our business done relatively early, especially if we're looking at european players. their prices will skyrocket after the euro's if they play well.
