Missed opportunity - Rome 77 - athens 07

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Reg » Sat May 12, 2007 1:42 am

Seems the club is missing a great chance to gain extra publicity and put extra pressure on Milan by not promoting 30 years of LFC European Cup success.

Posters, tv-interviews with ex-players, re-runs, adverts in Italian papers, posterboards put up in Athens etc.. - first to promote the club to younger fans worldwide, second to whip up some hype prior to the final and thirdly to get the upper hand on Milan in the mindgames department.

With basically 10 days to go, looks like its too late to put into action.

What a wasted opportunity, imagine arriving in Athens to find the place covered in LFC billboards of the Kop or Stevie lifting the cup in 2005!   :buttrock

hmmm we`re not exactly dealing with minnows here mate.
they are one of only 2 sides who have won the cup more times than ourselves and milan won their first european cup in 1963 as opposed to our 1977.
i suppose thats why liverpool didnt try to play the history in europe card because to be frank, at the moment, theirs is more impressive.

Personally I prefer the low key build up to this match.

Let Gattuso mouth off. We should just stay quiet and win the fookin' thing.

And give them more ammunition to win?

I'd rather let the club go troppo when we win the thing!

No need for mind games mate, its 50-50, we got to go out and dominate on the pitch, not off it. Look at Jose, he's a complete nutjob when he guides Chelski in the later stages of the competition, too much mind fckuking the opposition starts to affect your own players. No need to stress our players with mind games. It's complete shiite to me!

I like Rafa's method of having complete faith in our players to produce the goods when it counts. Keep it simple, stupid  :nod

We play better as underdogs and the Italians are convinced they will win (as they were in 2005 I might add). Even Fergie says we haven't a chance to beat Milan (sour grapes) and I think this all plays into our hands.

i hope gattuso touches the cup again. Italians are so predictable. We'll keep our dignity and celebrate at the end. All my mates think we are gonna get walloped. Same old story (bitter bitter mancs)

Need a player to say ' i bet gattuso doesn't have the guts to touch the cup this time' that'll force the little 5hit to do it.

77-07, billboards, tours, need to be done after we win, i don't expect the club to be so amatuerish after this victory.
