CSKA Moscow want 18 million for him ,that rules us completely out of the equation ??? It will most likely be a straight battle between City and Chelsea possibly the only teams capable of shelling out such a fee given the current climate ...

He is 28 years old and is playing for Standard Liege!!!

I truly hope not and that he turns out to be a steal.........time will tell

I would be happy with this deal if we sign a top notch striker as well

I don't know much about the player but I get the impression this lad is rated a little more highly than the Voronator. Liege have out together a decent side the past few years, we were very lucky to beat them in last year's champ qualifier and they stuffed Everton in the UEFA Cup last season.

We're skint so it's good to see us going in for a few Bosmans like this lad and the French boy who looks to be heading Arsenal's way. We haven't made the most of Bosman's over the years, Markus Babel is the only successful one I can think of.

This guy is much better than Voronin.

Have to agree with Ray on this one. Seen his record?

This will be Voronin all over again. He's scored what, 12 in 28 in the Belgian League this year? Nemeth would probably have that and Babel would be over 20 by now.

Another squad signing - he'll be sold within 18 months.

Not bad being as he`s been playing left wing alot of the time.

Obviously just a highlight package but could give some clues?
I have to say, I fear a Voronin too. The Belgian league is no better than the Bundesliga or Russian/Ukranian leagues, and Voronin was highly rated at the time too.
I just wonder what Pacheco, N'Gog and Nemeth think as they were all brought in with the promise of minutes on the pitch, and they have seen Voronin, Maxi and now this guy appear on huge salary for 3 year contracts. (Credit Crunch, not around in Football?).
In short, if they are not World Class players straight away, I don't think we should be signing over 27 year old's. One injury and you get Zero back on the fee anyway.
At least with a kid(Babel), there is a decent re-sale fee, even when he has for whatever reason, failed his objective.
Still, who knows..........He might be the next Zidane(not holding my breath).

Doesnt make many mistakes, keeps it simple, good at dribbling and has a nice finish.

Should be a good backup for when Torres is out

And I feel comparisons with Voronin are unfair, just based on age, standard of league and most of all fear. Cobblers to the argument Babel would score 20 in the Belgian league, he's yet to reach 20 in a Liverpool shirt having played FIFTY-FOUR full games worth of minutes. He scored only 20 in an Ajax shirt in 101 appearances

If you want a fair comparison, Jovanovic has scored nine goals in 23 apps for Serbia, Voronin had scored five goals in 45 apps. Jovanovic scores roughly every other game for SL, Voronin scored around one every three games at BL.

Let's not go sticking the knife into the guy before he's even started ffs, it's not Voronin coming back pretending to be some Serbian. He's free, low risk signing who we could at worst sell for some profit and it's not as if we can go out and buy six or seven good Premiership experienced strikers like Citeh because, as many of you will quickly point out when it suits, "we don't have any money" - and when we do it ends up being a Keane (flop), Aquilani (hardly starts), Johnson (over-priced FB) or Babel.............................
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

I agree with Owzat, we shouldn't crucify him before he even kicks a ball!
I've read up a bit on him and he seems to be decent enough
The only worrying thing may be whether he has the temperament to handle the physical aspects of the Premiership games
Most importantly, he's on a free!
Unless the 2 yankee twits start investing , we may be forced to look for players on Bosmans only
The only True Reds in england...........

In the last article from Guilllem Ballague he did mention Rafa has identified 2 or 3 players that would be free. I guess he is the first of a possible few. I don't really care if he is free or not he could still turn out to be great for us look at Gary Mac. Fingers crossed and all that...
