You can't fault the lad. Improved 200% in last couple of years. Gives away silly fouls, but so did scholes, makalele when at real early on. Glad to have him here, and under a new future and playing style, he his going to become even more important. We will add some real pace to the team in summer, and Lucas sitting is going to be key. Walk on the legend Lucas!

A scapegoat, but no more.

It's quite bewildering as for his first couple of seasons lucas was the scapegoat of choice when sometimes it was unwarranted. Now I don't know if this stems from the guilt of once lampooning the hell out of him but now everyone's bummin him. I don't get it.

For sure he does a good job in the dirk kuyt mould of nothin spectacular keeps things tickin but I can't accept that he will be an integral member of the team when we are fully on our feet again. Comparing him to scholes is bereft of context. One is an attacking midfielder, once world class who could never tackle hence the silly fouls, the other an attacking midfielder 'converted' into a defensive midfielder who is average in that position and only plays there because we never replaced masch and alonso.

Your obsessed with Mark Wright mate.......................says it all :blues:

I think alot of people are giving him praise (not bumming him) because hes earned it for putting up with all the abuse through the years, not moaniing and just trying his best to put it right, his attitude is spot on. Most people who support him dont believe he'll ever be world class just a Whelan type player who helps the game winnig players around him focus on exactly that. You cant have a world class top quality player in every position unless you have cheddar to burn. Every top team has a water carrier so to speak.

My surname is wright mate hence the reference!

I'm not naive to think we should have a world class player in every position, leave that to the people obsessed with footie manager. No problem in regards to giving him praise it's the fact that people were harsh when criticising him, now they are over the top with praising him. That's my main gripe.

I will admit he does a good job, if you read my post you will see i said that. I'm not sayin we need a world class player there, but someone who can do me more than simply be a 'water carrier'. For example, pass the ball into a dangerous area

He's still a k.unt though.
And speaking as an Irishman, who shouldn't belittle one of his own, where Ronnie Whelan is concerned I will gladly make an exception despite his success with Liverpool.
Any former player who openly expresses regret at not having played for the filth is a despicable tramp, IMO.

I think it will be because Kenny said lucas could be our Whelan recently that he has compared them.
To be honest Lucas has done well this season but to compare him with Whelan is OTT to say the least.
Whelan had great vision and scored goals as well.
Would love to have a player like him in our midfield today.
Sabre looks like a big lezzer

Was Kenny Dalglish bladdered when he said it?

What do medals have to do with comparig players abilitys? Im pretty sure if Lucas was in a team surrounded by the players Whelan was hed have quite a collection aswell come his retirement. Thats a completely ridiculous point to bring up. By your way of thinking its Gary Neville is far superior to Rob Jones

Patronising nob, some of us think for ourselves. Ive been saying it every since he cam here. Certainly along time before Kenny said it. Dont be bitter just because someone like Kenny thinks along the same lines of me.
