As a Liverpool fan I never want us to lose. At the same time I’m sure none of us want to stand by and watch Manchester United overhaul our record number of league titles.

I don’t believe we’ll get fourth place now anyway so I’m not sure the Chelsea result will have any real bearing for us. Does Rafa Benitez decide to give the likes of Dani Pacheco and the other young lads the chance to experience playing against Chelsea, or does he go for it and play his strongest side?

All I know is that if I was out there and we got a penalty in the 89th minute to make it 1-1, there’s only one place it’s going. Right in the top corner – of the Kop!

Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina has bristled at the suggestion he and his team-mates would be going for anything other than a victory against Chelsea.

"I don't play for them," Spaniard Reina said. "I play for my team and my supporters.

"I don't care what Manchester United will do. I will play to win on Sunday because I want to make sure we can get those three points and still have a chance of fourth place.

"We are playing at home and we never play for a draw or defeat. We will try to deliver a last home win of the season."

:buttrock

The closer it gets the more the tension rises. Who knows...Sunderland could turn in a blinder against United (- :glare: -). Chelsea could f*ck it up against Wigan next week anyway....Stoke might snatch a 0-0 at OT. Who can tell.

In anycase its 15 years since the last time everything was riding on the last knockings - i suppose, out of the scenarios possible, a Liverpool win followed by a Sunderland victory (even a draw) would be the ideal pathway to a conscience clear.

But there are any factors. The Referee at Old Trafford being one of them (random observation i know) but one that can 'usually' have a bearing...But yeah - im with Reina (just about still)

Both games should kick off simultaneously though imo.

No offence to Pepe but he is just a player in the current squad. I know he means well but this is about our history heritage and bragging rights over the dirty smelly skanks. We amassed our titles through skill, hard work, determination and class. They have got theirs through cheating, dirty tricks, intimidation and mind games.
This is about as important as winning the fifth Europen cup. Its the end of an era and them seeing that they have overtaken us as the most successful league team in English football.
All you who say every game must be won are not taking in the bigger picture because you either-
a: dont understand the enormity of this situation
or
b: dont care because you dont understand the enormity of the situation
Fu'ck them

Aldo is a legend - Reina, come the hour of judgement will be considered in the same breath. Whether he ultimately achieves such a stature here or at another club - he goes down in my book already, as one of the worlds top pro's. On and off the pitch. Reina will win his share of honours (somewhere)  But as 'men' and of character, integrity and substance - they both exemplify all that is good (that is STILL relevant) to Liverpool FC.

I respect them both.

Reina for being the spokesman of this current side expressing a view that the majority of supporters would want to hear a Liverpool team embracing. And Aldo for all the memories he provided...the trophies he helped to acquire and the rest of the team around him, who performed majestically at times.  The difficulty is that they are both 'right' in what they are saying... But Reina has to adopt his 'olympian spirit' moreso because it is the here and now. I dont doubt for that matter that ANY of the first team worth their salt would disagree with him either.

The whole issue is sickening and i can't wait for it all to be over with tbh. Whatever the outcome this weekend, matters are firmly outside of our own control regards to actually sneaking into 4th place.  But while there is the slenderest of chances - it must be chased after.

The whole lot rides on what the others do today.

All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Lets just go out to entertain... Im sure the fans would appreciate a good display even if it meant we lost the game eventually...

A lineup that has Aquilani, Gerrard, Benayoun, Babel, Kuyt with only one holding midfielder with the fullbacks given freedom to go forward would be my preference..

An open game with just about enough defensive cover would be the way to go imo...

3-2 to Chelsea.. good display from the side... wouldnt be too dissapointing...

I would play a 4-2-1-1-2 formation:
Gerrard in goal.
Aquilani LB
Benayoun RB
Kuyt CB
Babel CB
Lucas CM
Pacheco CM
Reina behind the Greek behind
Carragher and Ngog up front

Subs:
Goal: El Zhar
Nemeth
Itandje
Plessis
Riera

That would make for entertainment and lots of goals

I have been a liverpool supporter for 50 years watched them during the 70s and 80s and then moved down south and cannot CANNOT believe that Liverpool supporters who ever they are would rather lose 'LOSE' a fecking game to Chelsea rather than the 'Mancs' winning the title its staggering the vote......49% would rather lose to chelsea and deny the mancs...

WHERE IS THE PRIDE !@!!!!.

I seriously am wondering what the hell is happening to not only our club but also our NEW batch of supporters of late .... I read the posts on here and there is a clear misunderstand of WTF is going on ...

I have said a number of times that Rafa left Valencia in crippling debt where he overspent and bought a number of wrong players.... I have said for months RAFA is the problem and a number of here think he is ''THE MAN'' he seriously isnt BUT IT DOESNT STOP ME STILL believing EVERY TIME WE PLAY

AND NOW ..... we have probably a slim chance of getting fourth .... I dont care how bloody slim it is ..... I STILL believe B.E.L.I.E.V.E thats what true supporters DO.

I always have done ... did I switch of the TV that night in the Champions League final .... NO I DID NOT.... HOW posters on here switched off then? ???/

However bad the situation is I dont give up .... just because the next door neighbour has a better car I dont fecking ignore him ... just because the next door neighbour or any of my mates have a better job I decide NOT to socialise with them .... what IS happening.

IS THIS A CASE OF JEALOUSY with the mancs .... get over it

The only way we can still get 4th

win vs Chelsea
win vs Hull
Spurs & Man City to draw
Spurs to lose vs. Burnley
Man City not to win vs. West Ham

Not going to happen.

Why let United get anything out of it

After such a sht season in terms of performances, i think the least Rafa could do in the last home game of the season is give the fans something to get excited about... Im not talking about losing to Chelsea.. im talking about some football with no overcomplicated ridiculous tactics to try and stop the opposition from scoring rather than trying to create chances to win the game...

WE HAVE NO CHANCE AT GETTING 4TH PLACE !

We also have 7th place secured (hail rafa !) with Everton drawing today... so its a no pressure game as far as im concerned.. get the few flair players we have out there and give them the freedom to do what they do best... The result should be secondary to the performance imo...

'Now what?'  what  ???

The Liverpool way i would have thought...go out and try and win the game. If we can't, fair enough. So long as the effort and commitment is there the redmen will be applauded from the field im certain.

As will Rafa Benitez.
