Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

True, but I went for that because despite his goal Finnan didn't exactly have a stormer and Hamman did enough to keep his spot but he can't play wide so Gerrard went there.  Now that I think of it though putting him there was a bit hypocrtitacle considering I just said he's wasted there  :D

Sounds good. I think Cisse would play better against Monaco and hopfully get him on the path of a many goal season.

monaco will be a really tough game, however it's vital to get off to a winning start. it's especially essential to win all your home games. do that and you've got a great chance of qualifying.

as for monaco, they've lost their 3 star players from last season in morientes, guily and rothen but have also but in some class in saviola. we will have to be at our very best.

SAVIOLA OUT OF REDS MATCH
Steve Hunter  13 September 2004

Liverpool have been boosted by the news that Monaco will be without star striker Javier Saviola for Wednesday's Champions League match at Anfield, as the Argentinian international is suspended.

Saviola, who scored for Monaco in Saturday's 3-1 win over RC Strasbourg, serves a one match ban for a red card he picked up playing for Barcelona in the Champions League last season.

i can't wait. there's something magical about champions league nights. :)

apparently, on a less positive note, there was another fiasco over the ticket arrangement for this game. the ticketing policy at anfield is a shambles to say the least. :(

I think its extremely difficult game to call as few people know what level Monaco are at at the moment given that the likes of Guily, Rothen (tremendous player) and Moirentes have gone, but I have a feeling we'll win 2-0.

Thats more of an optimistic hunch than an actual basis on solid evidence because, as I said, Monaco are an unknown entity at the moment.

Kallon and Saviola could be tricky, however, as would Evra's runs from deep.

Starbridge42 wrote:That looks like a fairly well balanced side but I always feel that Gerrard is wasted playing anywhere but centre but from what I've seen of Alonso he would be wasted anywhere else as well.  It looks a bit short of width as said though.

I suspect Rafa may go for something like

                                Dudek
        Josemi      Carragher       Hyypia      Riise

          Gerrard    Hamman    Alonso      Kewell
                               Garcia
                                Cisse

I don't like the idea of playing only one up front but I'm saying we might be seeing that sort of line up with 5 in the midfield.  Rafa played a lot of Valencia games like that.

will this work ?

                                Dudek
             Josemi   Carra    Hyppia     Riise
             Garcia    Alonso   Hamann   Kewell
                               Gerrard
                                 Cisse

cos :
1)gerrard plays really well when he is at centre, so put him in the hole. This way gerrard has licence to attack and help out the midfield.
2)Garcia is mobile enuff to play at right.
3)Alonso & Hamann can dominate the midfield by playing in their fav position.

saviola not playing.......... it is starting to look good for us.  :D

But Monaco is a hard team to beat. We have to play well to beat them.

If everything goes to plan for RB, i predict we will win 1-0 with kewell getting the winner.......

I expect a good Liverpool win and I hope Rafe sticks with the team he picked on saturday because you should never change a winning side.

It's really good news for us that Saviola is not playing but it will still be a hard match.
