Del Piero and Capello talk ahead of Liverpool game
This is what Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero had to say at today's press conference:
When asked about Heysel:
"I was 11yrs old at the time of the Heysel disaster. I was watching the game together with my parents at some friends. I remember that when my dad realised how serious the incidents were, he sent me and my friend out to play football in the yard. We went back in after the game ended. I realised what had happened some time later. I hope that playing this tie after 20yrs will help give a lot of people closure and there is no better way of ensuring that this happens by playing with the true spirit of football and sportsmanship."
When asked about playing at Anfield:
"It will be great. The support the fans give over here is exceptional, and the game being a Champs Lge game will ensure that the level will be upped that little bit more."
Fabio Capello:
When asked about Heysel:
"At the time of the incident I was working as a commentator for a TV station. Today I feel honoured to be the Juventus manager for a tie that will be played with great sportsmanship in order to remember what had happened."
When asked about the game tomorrow:
"Playing at Anfield is difficult for any team. There is no other stadium in England that offers such great support for the home team. We have to play with great discipline, intensity and personality, otherwise it will be difficult to beat Liverpool. I am sure that we will play a great game."
When asked about the condition of the Juventus team:
" The players who broke off for international duty had little time to rest, whilst the others trained very well during the break. It is true that a long period without playing games can result in a decrease in concentration levels , but I am sure that when faced with such a game the concentration levels return immediately!".
When asked about his Juventus formation and Liverpool's style of play:
"I know my formation but I will not be telling it. I know Benitez and his style of play very well. Very knowledgeable and very careful, as it was at Valencia. He has always liked playing with one striker, so the fact that he has only one available will change little."
When asked about why he thinks Liverpool have done so well in the Champs Lge but stuttered in the league:
" When Benitez arrived he found players who did not know his methods. His squad suffered from a lot of injuries which prevented the team from challenging Chelsea in the Premiership. However they are now playing well and getting results in the Premiership."
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.
