AGGER SET FOR RESERVES COMEBACK

Steve Hunter 09 January 2008

The Danish international has been sidelined with a broken metatarsal since the goalless draw against Portsmouth on September 15.  Reds boss Rafael Benitez is delighted to have Agger available again and has likened his return to making a new addition to his squad.  "Agger will play for the reserve team at Blackburn and for us it's like signing a new player," said Benitez. "He is very close to starting a game for the first team.  "The injury he had wasn't a bad one but we had problems also with Xabi Alonso so we needed to be careful and we have missed him. We will be much better in the second part of this season."

On the injury front the boss is hopeful captain Steven Gerrard will be available for Saturday's trip to Middlesbrough after he missed the FA Cup tie at Luton due to a calf injury.  "He could be available for Saturday," added Benitez. "He is improving a lot with the physios so he could be an option for the next game."  Defensive duo Alvaro Arbeloa and Fabio Aurelio are also making good progress from calf and hamstring injuries respectively and Benitez said the pair will be available again for selection very soon.  "Both players are improving and working with the physios," added the boss. "I think Arbeloa is closer and Fabio will maybe need a bit more time. I think they will both be ready for next week and maybe one of them will be available for our next game."

On LFCtv tonight - 9 bells.

INTER '65 - THE REAL STORY:

Tonight on LFC TV – relive the 'real story' of Liverpool's famous European Cup semi-final meeting with Inter Milan in 1965.
While the home leg is remembered as one of Anfield's greatest ever occasions, the return at the San Siro is sill recalled with a gut-wrenching sense of injustice.

Few Liverpool losses have been as controversial and the name Ortiz De Mendibil is one that continues to haunt Liverpudlians of a certain vintage.

Presented by esteemed local author and broadcaster John Keith, 'Inter '65 - The Real Story' is an in-depth look back at a tie that has since passed into football folklore and the ideal way to prepare for the impending Champions League reunion with the Nerazurri.

Featuring guest studio appearances by former Red Tommy Smith, journalist Colin Wood and local historian Frank Carlyle, archive footage of both games and a fascinating insight into just how corrupt the Italian game was at that time, this is a show not to be missed.

This should stoke the flames ahead of next weeks tie at Anfield! Lets hope the lads can get some retribution for Shanks over both legs this time. Dont forget - 9pm.

Good solid performance by the ressies tonight and it was nice to see Agger get match minutes under his belt. Crackin show of defence by Skrtel and midfield domination by Xabi, Nemeth worked hard up front always chasing down imo i think he must be close to a little knock on the door by Raffa.

Nice to see so many fans there aswell
