Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Harry had a good game last night, good shot's, good runs, some telling passes and some good challenges.
The lad is definitely trying hard.  :)

Recently, Kewell hasn't showed any pace in his game.

He appears to be improving to me, I thought he had three worthwhile attempts at goal last night and several good runs at the defence which caused problem's for the defenders.

Yes he did but i think he would improve again with a rest.

At the moment I feel he is gaining both confidence and fitness with each game. Although a rest might be physically beneficial for Harry, it could affect his psycological progress ie. his confidence. !

From the Daily Post :

''Harry Kewell was central to the improvement, with a attacking display that strengthens the argument his recovery is now slowly but surely underway.

Whether beating his man or trying his luck from distance the much-maligned midfielder showed a renewed sense of confidence that augurs well for the future, and gave Liverpool the renewed initiative last night.

Three minutes after the restart he picked out the side's other main influence, Gerrard, inside the area and his skipper almost broke the deadlock with a rising drive on the turn.''

he done ok, still guilty of running into defenders instead of past them but nevermind.

good to see the lad having a few shots from distance.  rest him for a couple of games and he'll hopefully come good

he still looks like a player shot of confidence to me. there was one moment in the first half where a defender made a mistake on the edge of his own box, but instead of taking the shot himself, kewell tried to play it to gerrard and overhit it. the harry kewell of two years ago wouldn't have thought twice about taking the last defender on and shooting, that is the big difference. :(

Kewell was terrible in the first half, constantly giving the ball away, and running into defenders, hanging on to the ball for too long.

But in the second half he was arguably our best player. It makes you wonder why he can't perform like that consistently match after match and for 90 minutes, this can't be down to injury.

I think Rafa gave him a right bullocking at half time and he responded in the right way.

I thought Kewell did a little better after half time but overall he was pretty average. To be honest I am out of patience with the guy. You can only give them so long to deliver and hes ceratinly had plenty of time on the pitch. Correct me if I am wrong but I think he may have scored just once in the last year at Anfield and not much more away during that period. A few soft shots on target do not make up for that. I think its time he was shown the exit door if we can find a replacement.

The most cost effective option is to get him back on form :
   A. Saves on the cost of replacement.
   B. More valuable if we come to sell.
I honestly believe that the lad is trying, he looks gutted when things don't come off !! and he is made up when they do.

Like most on here i agree Kewell has been very disapointing and he turned in a real jeckle and hyde performance last night but there are signs he is coming back to form. His work rate has been excellent, he's making tackles, winning headers and doing all the ugly stuff (something you don't associate with Harry Kewell) and for the 1st time in ages he seemed to get some of that arrogance and swagger back in the 2nd half last time with a few penetrating runs, several shots and a cheeky backheel or two. Its too early to say he is turning the corner but it will do him good to hear the Kop sing his name last night.
