JONJO SHELVEY - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

When you compare him to Steven Gerrard in terms of how he plays, the big question is can Jonjo play to a high standard on a consistent basis, like Stevie has. During his LFC career.

Shelvey will calm down and become a better player

I miss those meaty two footed challenges! Especially in the derbys :)

Thought he was excellent when he came on at half time. He seemed to run the show and was everywhere. He is turning into a very strong player.

Perhaps most importantly it seems that BR really rates him and sees him as a big player.  This should mean he gets chance to play and develop quicker than he may under previous or other managers.

I think he has the potential to become a top player, ultimately replacing Gerrard as the driving force of our midfield.

i agree but the potential is clearly there. people forget he's only 20.

the balance of our midfield 3 is still up for debate without lucas being there. i don't feel any of them are playing in their best roles and are completely aware of their role in the system we play.

That's my view as well. He clearly has the raw talent, but at the moment he is misfiring on occasions. I don't think that Shelvey's form problems are not unique though, I am not sure there has been any player (i'll make an exception for Allen) who has performed every game to expectations this season.

He'll get plenty of opportunity under Rodgers and based on his progress so far I think he'll be a regular in the shirt for years to come.

Did have a pretty sloppy day on the pitch last night ,seemed a bit shell shocked and with low confidence. I think he should be starting matches and not entering as a sub ,he looks much more crispy and ready to go when he starts. With that said he needs to prepare himself mentally for all scenarios can't allow himself to get lost as he did on the last couple of matches.

Not a good day at the office yesterday but i'm not ready to drop support for him yet. He still has the attributes to be a great player, he just needs to develop a clinical instinct in front of goal. I still cannot work out how he lost his balance for that sitter yesterday.

more 'miss' than hit really. Never really shown me anything to convince me otherwise but I'll still cheer him on while he's in a red shirt. If he never played again I wouldn't miss him.

If you watch it again Shelvey turns his back and throws his hands up in despair just before Suarez squared it. This was because Suarez didnt pass to him straight away and took it around the defender before releasing it. Shelvey lost his concentration with his girly drama antics and THAT'S why, when the ball came across to him, he fluffed it.
Players would do well to stop the stupid Fu*king shows of petulance and childishness and focus on being highly paid young men whose job it is to win games.
We could have won that game at a canter, especially if the likes of Shelvey did what they were supposed to do.
