With regard to his freekicks, its not as if he gets the alot of opportunities during a game, SG has a go, riise has a go and both of these tend to be taken indirect. With Riise its a 50 yard run and hit it as hard as he can and most of the time he gets closed down, at least Aurellio can hit from a deadball

how many free kicks has Aurelio scored for us?

I said in my posts that i know he is capable of better deliveries than he showed on Tuesday. But not sure where all this dead ball specialist is coming from, i havent seen him even nearly score from a free kick yet, i wouldnt let him near the ones where a shot is on.

I think he is a decent enough player but nowhere near the level required, added to the fact he cant stay fit then he needs to go.

I thought Aurelio was beginning to show some good form and promise just prior to his injury. Given Riise's form this season I'd pick Aurelio any day of the week.

It's plain for all to see that Aurelio is a good player, but people have to consider the effect injuries can have on form. Don't forget he's not long since come back from a career-threatening achilles rupture.

I agree mate, I think a lot of people expect players to reach their best level as soon as they return from injury , unfortunately that rarely happens. Players need time and games to get match fit, recover their confidence and start playing to their best.

I must admit his free kicks have been a real disapointment since he came though.

Last two seasons, how many has anybody scored for us , christ you make it sound as though our other free kick takers lash the ball home every time.

Anybody know how many free kicks (within goal scoring range) Aurelio's actually taken ? .

I know one thing for sure. If Aurelio is a free kick taker is because he has earned so in the training pitch.

Mark Gonzalez scored a bunch of goals in Spain from range kicks, but in the Liverpool taker hierarchy he never got a chance. If Aurelio is allowed to take those is because he does well in the training pitch. Not that we have seen much of that in terms of goals so far, but he has shown his quality in his career often.

I know you quoted John Craig but as i posted the same sort of thing....Gerrard has scored probably about 4. Gonzalez got 1 last season but its not just the fact that he hasnt scored any, he hasnt come close.
He may ping them in left right and centre in training but that means fook all if he puts every one over the bar on the pitch (which he does).

True, but again , how many free kicks (within goal scoring range) has Aurelio's actually taken ? .

Christ Ace I remember a period when Gerrard knocked taking penalties on the head 'cause none of them were going in. Didn't mean he didn't have the ability, it just wasn't happening for him at the time.

How many times has he even tested the keeper FFS woof??

I don't give a fu.ck if you're his biggest fan mate, the fact is he can't take free kicks, and if Gerrard's on the park I'd have him on every one.

I don't see why you're so defensive over Aurelio, he's done absolutely nothing since he signed and I'll be absolutely amazed if he ever nails down the left back spot, even under a manager who seems to rate him.

F'ucks sake keep your hair on JC , I'm not Aurelio's biggest fan, neither do I consider my comments necessarily defensive. I just think the fella's being written off a tad too easily.

And yes JC, if Gerrards on the park, in most but maybe not every circumstance, I'd also want him to be taking the free's .

Never understood why Gerrard takes so many of our corners, would prefer to see him in or around the D, let some other f'ucker, even Aurelio, take them.

Fair enough big fellah, but for your information I don't have much hair to keep on

Agreed on the point about corners completely.  Gerrard's a poor corner taker imo and probably he would be more use hovering on the edge of the box.

More to the point why do we keep trying the same fkn freekick time after time. Riise (or whoevers available) touches the ball to the side and then Gerrard blasts it into the player closing the kick down. I know it worked a couple of times, but surely they can come up with something better than that. I would rather Gerrard just whacked the dead ball, at least then the players have to be 10 yards away.

We have always been poor with corners and freekicks, yet some teams like Bolton seem to depend on them.

Not sure S@int, I'll confess to being a fan of the old short pass to Gerrard for him to have a blast.  It's worked against Arsenal and Newcastle this season.  I can remember him scoring one against Everton like that a few seasons ago too, and that's just the ones I can remember.  It's much more tried and tested than the old side-footer from Aurelio with no pace into the keeper's hands
