First player to score in all competitions - Steven gerrard coud it be...

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby H_K_LFC » Sat May 13, 2006 1:54 am

If Steven Gerrard scores on Saturday will he have scored in every available domestic final - Uefa Cup Final (2001 v Alaves), Carling Cup Final (2003 v Manchester United), European Cup Final (2005 v AC Milan). Has another Brit achieved this feat?

MARTIN SAYS: What a great question to start off with. I have looked into this and come to the conclusion that this hasn’t been done before. My method of research was to look down the list of players who have scored in Champions League or European Cup final and that brought out some great names. A couple of them went close; Steve McManaman scored for Real Madrid against Valencia in 2001 and he was also on the mark, twice in fact, in Liverpool's 2-1 League Cup triumph in 1995. Then there is the like of Alan Kennedy and Bobby Charlton. Both scored in a European Cup final and a domestic final. Football tends to throw these little quirks up and a man who could face up to Gerrard on Saturday afternoon has also notched in two finals - that man is West Ham's Teddy Sheringham. He was on the mark in the FA Cup against Newcastle and then against Bayern Munich in the European Cup, both in 1999. So it seems Stevie G is on the verge of making history. And wouldn't it be great if he added a goal in the final of the World Cup to his list, too.

Now if he can score in the final of the F.A Cup that would be a great achievement and another achievement would be if Gerrard were to score in the final of the World Club Championship.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that also mean's he has passed the test that Mr. Benitez made him at the start of the season, which was to score 25 goal's this seaon.

He has 24 goals in all competition, 1 goal less than Rafa's target!

but 24 goals for a midfielder is amazing!!

Well done Stevie you are a LEGEND
