Presuming that Everton win today (always prepare for the worst case scenario), we would be 5 points behind Everton if we could win those 2 games. Both games are at home and we can expect a few players back.

Both games are more than winnable, epically since they are at home, then a 5-point gap would be more realistic to pull back. But those next 2 games will define whether we are capable of making a late challenge for that very important 4th place.

Now if we beat both Blackburn and Everton the gap will only be 2 points. There is still hope.

The style of footie that we've been playing i think suits us to win against Evertin, though we may have to shake things up to beat Blackburn, O and btw I told you that Blackburn would beat Everton for the past 4-5 days :D  :p

everton yesterday showed what an average team they are. as soon as they get a couple of injuries they are absolutely screwed. for the last seventy minutes their plan was to bring big dunc on and just lump the ball into the penalty area and hope for the second ball. in terms of a footballing side, blackburn were far superior, and they're supposed to be relegation fodder.

however it is a sad state of affairs when we have to rely on the blue sh#te to slip up just to remain in the race for 4th. had we won yesterday we could actually have gone ahead of them if we beat blackburn and then beat them in the derby.

It's a fair point St Mike. As much as I was happy with their demise yesterday, it puts our ineptitude into sharp focus when you consider that they are deservedly ahead of us right now. Blackburn absolutely outclassed them, and it's not as if Everton didn't give it absolutely everything, they always do.
As far as players on view are concerned, I'm continually impressed by Cahill who I think has a touch of the apprentice John Wark about him. I like the Blackburn left-sided player (can't remember his name) who I think will go on to better things and the two unknown centre-halves did well too. Stead is yet more proof that just occasionally the lower leagues yield gold that is not always of the fools variety but MOM for me was our own David Thompson. A class apart and lovely to see. Good on him.

i always rated david thompson. i thought he was a class player. unfortunately he was another one who had an "attitude problem" to say the least. good to see him getting one over the blue sh#te though.

i can just see the derby now. they'll play one upfront and pack the midfield. it's up to us to attack them and beat them. i have no doubts that we will.

understand what you say about cahill though. he was an absolute steal for 2m. also superb in the air for one so small. isn't he suspended though? ???

Cahill was a typical lower league buy. In these days of multi-media there are few surprises. The world and his brother checked him out. Same as Stead. I once saw an interview with Harry Redknapp when he said he went to have another look and was sitting next to FIVE Premiership manager. They went for a jolly-up after the game. Thing was, Millwall wanted 2 million and Huddersfield wanted a million which prompted sharp intakes of breath all round. It amazes me that people will take a chance on some unknown who's been playing in Cairo but a British based guy? Not on your nelly.
Theres a host of others in the lower leagues who they are all checking out, Spurs didn't quite buy all of em.
Gabbidon at Cardiff might make a player, The ginger haired midfielder at reading (sorry I think I've got senile dementia this morning) is being watched by all and sundry and the front two at Wigan will possibly both make it. All that glitters isn't gold, but al things from the lower divisions aren't    sh!te either.

i recently read an article of the best players in the championship. steve sidwell of reading came 1st. surprisingly, he's yet another young english guy who "didn't make it" at arsenal.

personally, i think julio arca of sunderland is the best player in that division and far too good for the championship.

Sidwell, thats him thanks mate. Also there's Xabi's best mate who plays for Wrexham or sombody and has scored 15 goals in 10 league games or something. Please don't jump on me, I'm not suggesting we should sign the Wrexham fella, merely that he will play at a better level.

The annoying thing is they have been $hit but we have not been able to play well. Everton have dropped many points lately (what all Liverpool fans have been wanting) yet we cannot seem to take advantage of this because we have dropped points as well. If Everton wins all their games, you say to yourself "Fair enough they were better because they did not drop points".

They are cr@p however, and we cannot seem to close the gap. We are losing to average teams (home and away), and I pray we make the next round of the CL (3-1 is no where near a safe result) because were we to lose out to the Germans on Wed, that will beak the heart of the team (and it is already a little shakey).

The only way we are making forth spot, is through a good team spirit. So far we have not shown it consistantly, and I do not see it developing. Maybe Gerrard has to go, maybe too many foreigners in the team, or maybe uncertainty over transfer funds. Who knows? Fact is Everton can lose every match, but it will not make a difference to us unless we start playing like winners. It is in our hand because the team above us is cr@p, but honest and hard working. Maybe our under achieving players should look at the over acheiving Everton players, and learn about fighting spirit.

I really do not care about win or lose right now, I care about them fighting to the end. Something they have not shown consistantly for years.
