What exactly about him reminds you of Traore? It's sure as f'ck not his skin tone, that's for sure. I don't get it. Enlighten me.

hi, my name's julian and i come from italy, i'm a new user... i just want to make you sure that dossena is really a good player, one of the best left back... maybe he needs more confidence to express his real game made of speed and overlaps!! his shot is accurated and extremely cut... i hope you understand what i mean, i can't speak english so good!! any way Forza Juve e Forza Liverpool!!!

The early signs for Dossena aren't good.  I'm reserving final judgement though because he still doesn't look fit to me, looks to be carrying a few extra pounds.  Plus Serie A is a completely different style and pace of football to the Premiership, so he might look better when he gets to grips with it.  Wishful thinking maybe, but one thing I do like about him is his attitude, always looks up for the fight to me, even if playing badly, so he might come good.

Aurelio is a bigger liability imo.  Doesn't fancy a tackle, has a body made of glass and his delivery from open play and set pieces is woeful.  He also gives the ball away for fun.  Don't rate him.

just out of interest john, would you have kept riise?

Quite simply, I don't think Dossena is good enough going forward to be considered a top class attacking full back, and I don't think he is good enough going backwards to be a top class defensive one either.

I which case why sell Riise and then buy Dossena?? The exact same arguments were made for Riise!

As a rule I am fan of Italian football, I like the way this guy plays. He wants to get the ball up top asap, can take a man on and has a mean cross on him. Defensively maybe a little lacking but you cant do 2 jobs at the same time. He is cool under pressure aswell.

Worth £7,000,000? Probably not. Better than Riise? Yes!

Well i havent seen any of all the things you seem to be talking about.. he cant carry the ball forward as far as im concerned if you compare him with all the other top left backs.. plays way too many long seemingly aimless balls... his crossing is no better than Aurelio's... he's poor defensively.. havent seen him take on players convincingly he seems to just go about it trying to take on players when he should be trying to pass the ball and take on a better position.. gets caught out of position quite alot..

worth nothing near 7mill from what i'v seen so far and as far as im concerned is hes no better than Riise or Aurelio..

can you think of any top club in England or Europe for all that matter that has a worse left back, a worse right back ?
Him and Arbeloa arent good enough.. we need to improve both positions imo.

Aurelio's probably one of our best passers of the ball. Definitely better when we need to hold on to possession, which is pretty much every match.

Too fat, needs to lose a stone otherwise looks liek he'll get skinned time and time again, never mind having any hope of beating players and putting decent crosses. Not really impressed so far...hopefully though he's still adapting to the english style but I prefer Aurelio in that position still.

I watched Paraguay the other night - their left back Morel is way better than Dossena

Think he plays for Boca Juniors

Full name - Claudio Marcelo Morel Rodríguez

Wikipedia:
"In 2007 he came in second place in the South American Footballer of the Year award and was chosen for the "Ideal Eleven" of South America. "

Probably St Mike.

I think when we were discussing which players to clear out at the end of last season, I said I'd prefer to keep Riise and ship out Aurelio.  For a few reasons, Riise has come through bad spells in the past and overall he was fairly steady for us.  Aurelio has never convinced me and the fact that he is nearly always injured meant that whichever new LB we brought in (Dossena as it turned out) needed to be ready straight away, which is nearly never the case.

As it is now we have one LB injured and another struggling to adapt to a completely new league.  Had we kept Riise over Aurelio I'm sure it would have been a better scenario.

That said perhaps we needed the money for Riise and perhaps he himself needed a new challenge to get back to his best.  I'd still have preferred to keep him though.

I think he needs a little more time, he'll either prove everyone wrong or not but it's too early to decide.

when Aurelio arrived Rafa said he was a "free kick specialist"....yet i don't see it. His set play is poor and having Riera in the side highlings just how poor Aurelio's crossing is from the left.
