Not especially skillful as all he could do was wallop it like he did, and hope the keeper didn't have the reflexes to divert it wide. Goal apart, he had a header cleared off the line and another that flew absolutely miles wide, while his general play was rather ineffective to put it mildly. Running offside, being brushed off the ball, and not using the ball well enough are symptomatic of his performances. IMHO, you could put just about any player from the Championship upwards in a red shirt and people would see something in him.

We desperately need another striker.

Nail on head.  :nod
Football is a relatively simple game and Roy knows it ;)

A comment from respected football journalist Henry Winter on his Twitter page - "Carlton Cole deal collapsing is a lucky escape for Liverpool. He's not good enough for them. N'Gog may be raw but has greater potential." I'm hoping he's right.

I suppose 1 positive to come from not bringing in another striker is NGog should see more playing time. He has done better than everyone expected so far this season so why shouldn't be be rewarded with more playing time.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

Well said

HE deserves his chance and most of the time when called upon he has done well. If we had only signed him today on deadline day everyone would have been happy with that

long term i'd rather see eccleston given a chance if i'm honest. ngog is a decent finisher but his all round game is nowhere near good enough as he's physically weak and can't hold the ball up well enough. why we ever play him as a lone front man i'll never know. he does his best work when he's in a two.

next season i'd be looking to loan him out to another premiership side. there was talk of him going on loan to west brom last summer and that would have been ideal for him but wasn't feasible as he was our only real back up option top torres. he actually did ok earlier in the season but last night you could tell that a lack of games had taken it's toll as he was well off the pace. he was ridiculously isolated though.

agree with this, never a lone striker and doesn't have the ability to play alone and he always does well when we play 2 up front

I don't think he is good enough, he might turn up to be decent, but we need to get better

Felt a bit sorry for him last night.
He has hardly played and its a tough role even when fit and in form.
He is better than what we seen last night but should only be third or fourth choice.
We need to see Carroll on the pitch asap.
