Current Squad- who should we sell

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby redshade » Thu May 19, 2016 4:23 pm

Without European footy i think we will downsize the squad. Its going to be more about Quality next season than quantity.
From Aug to Dec it will just be a game a week unless we have a decent run in the league cup.

If the first team plays like that, then we certainly need to be moving on all the deadwood from the squad to free up funds and wages.

Simon Mignolet - Sell or Demote.
Adam Bogdan - Sell or Raffle him.
Ryan Fulton U21 - Don't know.
Danny Ward

DEFENDERS
Nathaniel Clyne - Keep.
Jose Enrique - Already gone.
Kolo Toure - Too old and we should be using one of the younger lads instead.
Dejan Lovren - Sell or demote.
Joe Gomez  U18 - Keep.
Mamadou Sakho - Sell or demote.
Alberto Moreno - Sell.
Steven Caulker - Gone for sure.
Tiago Ilori - if he isn't good enough then its time to bite the bullet and sell.
Kevin Stewart - Keep.
Martin Skrtel - Sell or demote.
Jon Flanagan - if he's fit then keep.
Ryan McLaughlin U21 - loan or sell.
Andre Wisdom - sell or keep as back up.
Connor Randall U21 - Keep.
Brad Smith U21 - Keep.
Joe Maguire U21 - Keep.

MIDFIELDS

James Milner - Keep but as a bit part player.
Philippe Coutinho - Keep.
Jordan Henderson - sell.
Adam Lallana - Keep but as a bench player.
Lucas Leiva - Sell.
Emre Can U21 - Keep.
Joe Allen - if he is happy with the way he's played then keep.
Cameron Brannagan U21 - Keep.
Jordon Ibe U21 - Loan or sell.
Lazar Markovic [Loan out] U21 - Give him a chance or sell.
Joao Teixeira - Same as lazar.
Sheyi Ojo U18 - Keep.
Pedro Chirivella U18 - Keep.
Marko Grujić  U21 - Haven't a clue.

We already signed Matip and imo it was as a starter. If we brought in 2 more decent centre halves at the expense of either Lovren, Skrtel or Sakho.

FORWARDS
Christian Benteke - sell.
Roberto Firmino - Keep and hope he improves.
Daniel Sturridge - Keep and hope we do a better job with bentekes replacement.
Divock Origi U21 - Keep.
Danny Ings - Deserves a chance.
Samed Yesil  U21 - Sell.
Mario Balotelli - Sell.
Jerome Sinclair U21 - Not sure.
Luis Alberto - Sell.

A good chunk of those players listed won't feature much next season except in the early rounds of the cups, some won't feature at all and some should progress to the first squad. We need to have a decent team first so any changes that do come about should be to that 1st 11.

I'd be delighted if they were a Keeper, 2 Centre Half's, 2 Midfielders and 1 Striker. Heard reports that klopp has been given 200 mil so if he does plus player sales we could easily buy 6 experienced players.

Quite surprised to see Firmino mentioned as a sell by some on here. Considering its his first season in England, I think he has done reasonably well and more than shown there is a player there. Yes consistency not quite there yet  but  I think that will come next season

i think the ones that have to go are:

bogdan - get a top keeper in and let migs be back up or for the cups
skrtel - i've always liked skittles, but i think the time has come
kolo - he's become a bit of a hero but time is against him
ilori - you just feel its never going to happen for this kid. needs a new start
caulker - id forgotten he was here
moreno - just not good enough
ibe - i really don't think he's going to get any better
henderson - a tricky one, him being captain and all that. but out of him, lucas and allen he's the one i'd let go
benteke - nothing more to be said
balotelli - as above
alberto - forgot he was here as well

that's almost an ok team for a lower mid-table premiership club

yeah, me too. there's a cracking player in there. i'm also surprised to see calls to ditch lovren, who's become a rock, sakho (wtf?) and also milner who, in my opinion, is becoming the glue that holds the side together.

I pretty much agree with all of this. My only other reservation is banking on Sturridge to stay fit and Coutinho and Firmino finding consistency over a season, though this thread doesn't involve signings...

I think a few who I had reservations about have done enough to at least perform a role in the side. I'd consider chucking Lucas is a better option is brought in - we're crying out for a commanding DM

Sorry Eagle, we wouldn't even come 7th or higher with that squad.
"LIVERPOOL: 6 European Cups, 19 Domestic Titles, 3 UEFA Cups, 8 FA Cups, 9 League Cups and 4 European Super Cups and 1 Club World Championship

All other English clubs pale into insignificance!"

I was just watching some old vids and came across our 2001 FA cup win.
Houllier did create a decent team. We had a solid back line, strong in the middle and flair going forward.
A strong spine.
Same goes with Rafa in his high time he also had a strong spine.

This was the team on the final in 2001.

Westerveld, Babbel, Henchoz, Hyypia, Carragher, Murphy, Gerrard, Hamann, Smicer, Heskey, Owen.

Subs: Fowler, Berger, Arphexad, McAllister, Vignal.

Rafa team in 2009 vs Mannure

Reina, Carragher, Skrtel, Hyypia, Aurelio, Mascherano, Lucas, Kuyt, Gerrard, Riera, Torres.
Subs: Cavalieri, Insua, Ngog, Arbeloa, El zhar, Dossena, Babel

Alonso aswel but he was injured then.

Currently we are lacking in all departments apart from strike to a certain extent.

Given time im sure Klopp will create his own strong spine but it will take a few windows.

Babbel, Henchoz, Hyypia, Carragher

Rock solid

If we want to win games, we must have a rock solid back four. It's fundamental.

How far off are we from that? Clyde was probably our most consistent player this year. Loren had a great second half and we know how good sakho can be, plus the addition of matip. Really just our left back. Our current one is incapable of defending, should be a winger really. Replace Moreno with a reliable left back and we have one of the strongest back lines in the league.

Obviously we need to get a real keeper as well or that's all pointless.

As effective as Hyypia/Henchoz were, their lack of pace dictated that we defended very deep. If we had those 2 in their prime now with Klopp's pressing game and holding a high defensive line as we do, we'd still concede a lot of goals. They fitted our counter-attacking style under Houllier though.

We need a left back and a keeper. Part of the reason Sakho has looked dodgy at times is due to Moreno going walkabout and leaving him exposed. Some of it is his own doing. He can be worked with, so can Clyne and Lovren.

The fact that opposition teams consistently play on the weaknesses of Mignolet (pump plenty of high balls/crosses in) and Moreno (play everything down our left in order to get said crosses in) says it all really. Teams have been doing that all season and getting success.

Seriously  :Oo:
Clyne is the only decent one mate. The rest are ropey as fook  :nod

                                                                                 New keeper

                Clyne                            Matip                                         New                      New.

That line up is already better than what we have  :D
