CHELSEA VS LIVERPOOL FA CUP SEMI - Can you smell the fear?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

An updated post-match summary from Soccernet. What came out of Jose's mouth is even worse than we read initially.

-----------------------------------------------------------

No graces from Mourinho as Chelsea crash out

Jose Mourinho fuelled his feud with Rafael Benitez after Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford to reach the final of the FA Cup.

The rival managers did not shake hands after the match and Mourinho once more refused to acknowledge that Liverpool were worthy winners, just as he had done after the Merseysiders knocked Chelsea out of the Champions League last season.

John Arne Riise and Luis Garcia gave Liverpool a 2-0 lead before Didier Drogba pulled one back for Chelsea in a frantic finale.

Mourinho said: 'Did the best team win today? I don't think so. In the last 30 minutes we deserved extra time.

'In the first half nobody was better. They had a good start to the second half but then we dominated the game. I cannot wish them luck in the final. Middlesbrough and West Ham will be there and I must respect them.'

There was precious little respect for Liverpool, however, who have now won two of their last 10 matches against Chelsea, crucially both semi-finals in the Champions League and the FA Cup.

Mourinho, however, does not believe it is a sign that Liverpool can challenge for the Barclays Premiership title next season.

He said: 'In the Premiership they have no chance. Over 40 matches no chance. Maybe they will surprise me and they can do it.

'But in 10 matches against us they have won twice. In the Premiership the distance between the teams is 45 points over two seasons. We beat them in a final, they beat us in two semi-finals. A psychological advantage? I don't think so.

'In four matches in the Premiership we beat them four times.'

He added somewhat mischievously: 'I wish them luck for their qualification match in the Champions League.'

It was another sour post-match performance from Mourinho who Benitez confirmed did not want to shake hands at the end of the match.

Benitez said: 'I was with our supporters at the end and I could see him but he didn't want to.

'At least we showed the people we can beat them. They have a lot of good players but we do too. We have a great team spirit.

'We are in the final. My players have done a fantastic job.'

And on Mourinho's comments he said: 'I have heard the same things before the Champions League games. We are in the final of the FA Cup and I must give credit to players and not talk about the other team.'

The Chelsea boss, meanwhile, also refused to admit that his decision to play defender Paulo Ferreira in midfield was a mistake, even though he switched him to full-back at half-time when Arjen Robben came on as a substitute.

Mourinho preferred to criticise Graham Poll for awarding a free-kick against John Terry for a high boot which led to Liverpool's first goal.

He said: 'I don't think it was a mistake. The biggest mistake of the first half was the decision for the free-kick for the goal. When the referee gives an important decision 70 metres from the ball that is wrong.

'Ferreira was one of the best players in the team.'

Mourinho instead put the defeat down to missed chances, two by Drogba and one in the last minute by Joe Cole.

Mourinho said: 'You can't miss chances in crucial matches. The good thing is that in two weeks time we have three matches to be champions. Being close to doing that is the best treatment for such a result.'

----------------------------------------------------------

Yes, blame the referee. It's always not your fault, Jose.

Go ahead and spend another 20+m on another overhyped player (read: SWP, Drogba, Essien) to pacify yourself with shopping therapy.

Moreeen is in the state of Denial and you know this is typical of an act by a 3 years old. What was remaining for that little bit of respect from other teams in the EPL is now officially gone. Have you seen anyone who has so little class. I'm sure even Fergie who was in the stand was smiling inside. :D

I think moanrinho has cracked..... When giving press interviews, the number rule is not to say anything which will come back to bite u......

If roman leaves chelsea this season, u think they can get past the group stages ?  :no

Like i said, moanrinho is reacting as a manager under a lot of pressure........... Looks like the league title is not enuff for roman....

I AM :censored: WELL HAPPY!!!!!

Got back about 1/2 an hour ago. We dominated for 60 odd mins and deserved to win. I can't really type because I'm so happy.

Unfortunately after the game a few fights broke out and there were numerous chelski fans calling us murderers etc, typical blue sh*te stuff. It only takes one nob head and it all kicks off. I stayed out of it.

What's with the slating of Moro?  I share the opinion that he should be shipped out after this season for his goal scoring record (or lack of), but today he came on to use his brilliant work ethic and help us defend from the front, which I feel he did.

Superb play by us, Garcia must be treated as a striker next season.  He might be unpredictable, but man:  what movement and vision on the ball when he does get it right.

I'd be well happy with a striker line of Garcia, Cisse, Crouch, Fowler and one new signing.

I'm made up over the result today.  Well deserved boys, well deserved.

Going to be a tough one, obviously. Be a dream if we managed to put three or four past them, but more likely a scrappy 1-0. Imagine if its a controversial penalty in the 92nd minute, priceless! :D

Good stuff lads. garcia was the right choice and he did us proud. They might as well give us the cup now

My nerves were freyed, my heart was in my mouth, but you did us proud lads, it was a BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT WIN!!!!!

Carragher was superb as usual, and Hyppia and I thought Crouch played well, so he missed a shot--- what's new. Cisse was a disappointment.
BUT WE WON!!!
And I have only one thing left to say to mourinho
SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

It's not like the John Terry foot up resulted in a penalty - they still had every chance of stopping the goal. If the two defenders hadn't pussied out of the wall, Riise wouldn't have scored.

And it's not like John Terry didn't foul Riise in the run up to the disallowed goal. He was practically getting a piggy back from him.

If he's going to whine about the referees constantly, then maybe he should get it through to his players that they should, for instance, a) stand f*cking still in a wall, and b) not foul defenders/handle the ball etc. If they didn't do these things, he'd have f*ck all to talk about.

Bitter c*nt. I'm just sorry that the best league in the world is topped by the least gracious manager the game in this country has ever had. Maybe if he hadn't tried such ridiculously stupid tactics, he'd have had less to moan about at the end. Duuuuuuuuuuh. :D
