Anelka hinting.

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby kopper » Fri Feb 06, 2004 8:47 pm

Anelka revealed that Man C is just a springboard to secure a deal with a better club.

"Of course, Manchester City are not Real or Arsenal but it is a step in my career, not even a step but a test," Anelka told L'Equipe.

"I wanted to prove things with my club. Just before joining, everyone thought I would sign for Liverpool.

"I had a good relationship with Gerard Houllier but in the end, he took a decision and it was not to keep me.

"Considering all I have experienced at City, in football and life in general, I have learnt and improved a lot.

"It is a springboard but we have not talked about anything yet.

"I am ready to play for a great club again and I don't have a favourite. For England, it will be difficult as I have already played at Arsenal and Liverpool and it is impossible to go to Manchester United as both clubs don't negotiate together.

"Of course, I won't come back to France. In France, people don't understand anything. They just see money.

"In England, they are fans first and they don't criticise so easily."

Does Anelka want to go back to Arsenal or Liverpool.....hmmph
I think if we get a new manager we should make an offer and he will come. No doubt Houllier made a bad move in not signing him initially but I believe Anelka enjoyed his time at Liverpool and will be more than happy to return...and yes we are still a big club. He is also a proven striker in the premiership and IMO playing much better now in Man C then when he was still refinding his feet in the premiership with Liverpool.
Houllier should forget his pride for a second and sign Anelka...if Anelkas personality proves unbearable(the reason I believe Houllier decided against signing him in the first place)....THEN we send him packing.

Strangely enough I would agree with both Sangy and Houllier.  I think Houllier was cocerned that Anelka had the potential to be trouble he might have seen him as another Collymore.  Sangy's right and so was Houllier somethings dodgy about Anelka.

Yes, he does come with a bad name......Freakin moans about everything, but still I think we should've given him a go....and if he moans send him packing. With a big profit in mind.

I've watched Cisse about three times on Sky and Euro sport he looks a bit of a handful but then so was heskey before he signed.  I'd need to see more of him.  I think Steed Malbranque is a bloody good potential right mid though!

I agree, Steed would be a good signing and we've been heavily linked with him in the past. I heard Houllier didn't make any transfers this transfer window because of the Ziege issue incase we need the money, 'brough are claiming 15 mill ...or 10 mill, cant remember exactly from loss of ticket sales and claiming he was worth 7.5 mill.

Cisse maybe Owens replacement. Anelka is what Id call a mungrel player....mungrels are great, but they bite both the opposition and the hand that feeds them equally. Some mungrels are worth the effort. Anelka? nah hes not mean enough

He's hardly loyal, how many times has he jumped ship in recent years? Arsenal, Real Madrid, PSG, Liverpool and now Man City within five years of winning the double with Arsenal (sorry if I missed a team, following the exploits of Anelka is not a hobby) He is undoubted quality, whether Cisse will achieve what Anelka has is mere speculation. Liverpool have signed too many strikers "speculating" what they might do for me to get excited at the prospect of signing Cisse for £13m. Heskey was to "set Anfield alight", Diouf came with a reputation albeit being played out of position by Houllier and Baros hasn't even had much of a sniff. We paid enough for them, I could even throw in Smicer as well, maybe one or two others who have since left. Only one striker has stayed and achieved (so far) and that is Michael Owen

Fair enough Owzat, only Owen has achieved so far but during Anelkas loan spell he seemed to fit in well and probably would fit in now so he wouldn't have been a Smicer,  Diouf or Heskey. As for your point of him being hardly loyal...Goes without question.

Anelka is a total enigma - He has absolutley everthing a footballer could need but there is obviously something not right upstairs. I still think GH should have taken a gamble and signed him and i'm sure in hindsight GH thinks the same thing (not that he would ever admit to being wrong ofcourse!)
