From The Guardian:

LONDON, May 6 (Reuters) - Former England manager Bobby Robson is suffering from a fifth bout of cancer, he told the Mail on Sunday newspaper.
The 74-year-old, who is a consultant to Ireland's national team, has started a six-week course of chemotherapy after doctors found cancerous nodules in his lungs.
Robson, who won 20 England caps before turning to management, coached Spanish club Barcelona, Sporting and Porto in Portugal, English teams Newcastle United and Ipswich Town, and Dutch side PSV Eindhoven. He led England to the World Cup semi-finals in 1990.
Robson has had four operations in a 15-year battle against cancer.
"Of course, it's not the greatest news I've ever had but I have fought hard throughout my life and I will continue to fight. I will battle as I've always done," he said.

Sad news, my thoughts go out to him & his family. The most successful England manager since '66, Sir Bobby is one of the few true gents left in the game. I knew he'd had cancer before & survived, but didn't realise this was the fifth time it had happened.

Cancer keeps doing damage to the society as we well know in this forum. :(

Bobby Robson in Spain was accused of being obsolete, but if they had let him work, and if he had a better translator (Mourinho was the fúcking translator so you can imagine he did more wrong than good) he could have done a better job.

A man of football, that must be respected.

All the best, Bobby....

And like others have said a true gent...

Thought Newcastle treated him very shabily...a great shame from the club he adores...

One of the good guys....

I hope he beats this terrible disease..

Went to watch Bolton vs Newcastle Reserves years ago at the Reebok. Was about 1999/2000 I think...

My Mum's colleague Tony was a referee/linesman for alot of reserve games in the area and he took me along as his guest.

Anyway about 15 minutes in, I turned round and saw Bobby and Steve Clarke sitting there watching the game. I was star struck to be honest, anyway, at half time I went up and asked for autographs, the two of them were more than happy to sign the programme I had.

Bobby then left, while Steve Clarke stayed in his seat and spoke to me for a couple of minutes about football and asked a couple of questions about weather I play etc etc, was a really nice fella.

Anyway, a couple of minutes after the restart, I got a tap on my shoulder, Bobby Robson had only gone and baught myself and Steve Clarke a cup of coffee. :D

Top fella and wish him all the best. :bowdown
