Fifa World Cup 2014

International Football/Football World Wide - General Discussion

It will get moved - Blatter and FIFA have far too much power and Countries in their pocket. It was a disgrace that both Russia and Qatar got the WC because it was all about the money . Next years World Cup in Brazil is going to be a massive wake up call - stadiums not ready - fans unable to afford tickets , massive crime and protests. It's going to be a disaster

This quote from Blatter sums it up

"The World Cup is Fifa's biggest, if not only, global event. Who are we, the Europeans, to demand that this event has to cater to the needs of 800million Europeans above all?
"I think it is high time that Europe starts to understand that we do not rule the world anymore, and that some former European imperial powers can no longer impress their will onto others in far away places.
"We must accept that football has moved away from being a European and South American sport - it has become the world sport that billions of fans are excitedly following every week, everywhere in the world."

no way will it get moved to winter, blatter is saying all this now but he knows he`ll be retired in a few years and he wont be the one who will have to take the european clubs on.
FIFA havent got a leg to stand on, the whole voting process was done under the understanding that the tournament is taking place in summer, they just cant rip up contracts and radically move the goalposts like that, business doesnt work that way.

FIFA run the game with UEFA mate - they will have no problems moving it all and changing goalposts and countries won't be able to do sweet FA about it.

Don't even get me started on the shambles that is Qatar 2022.

Most corrupt decision made in sporting history and just shows you what a truly dark and rotten organisation FIFA is.

Agree with Benny, if they want to move it they will. They are too powerful at this point in time.

Would be great to see the major nations boycott that WC, would be the only way of showing up these corrupt pieces of s**t.

All other English clubs pale into insignificance!"

Qatar World Cup 2022: Top clubs 'open' to winter tournament

Europe's leading clubs have stated that they are "open" to the possibility of a winter World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
Fifa chief Sepp Blatter has called for the tournament to be moved because of concern over how players would cope in summer temperatures of 40C and above.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the chairman of the European Club Association,  which represents the top teams, said: "It is probably better to play it in winter.

"We're not in a hurry, there are still nine years to go."
Since Qatar won the right to host the World Cup in 2010, the practicalities of staging a summer competition in the Middle East have been debated.

After voicing his own concerns in July, Blatter said he would consult the host nation and his executive committee about his proposals to have the World Cup moved to the winter.

The Swiss Fifa president has also suggested that it might have been a "mistake" to award the Gulf state the World Cup.
Rummenigge added: "Having the World Cup in Qatar is not a mistake.

"After visiting Qatar at our last general assembly we had a good feeling about the organisation of a World Cup there."
Football Association chairman Greg Dyke told the BBC in August that a summer World Cup in Qatar would be "impossible".
However, the Premier League has taken an opposing stance, with chief executive Richard Scudamore saying: "My view is you can do it in the summer.

"The bid was extremely thorough, they dealt with all the issues about the heat and the managing of the air conditioning in the stadiums."

There are 10 English teams who are members of the European Club Association - Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Everton, Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle and Tottenham.

The ECA is an independent body representing the interests of Europe's clubs. It replaced the G14 Group and the European Club Forum in 2008 and is recognised by both Fifa and Uefa.

There are 214 members, with an executive board headed by Bayern Munich chief executive Rummenigge, who was re-elected as chairman on Tuesday.

Analysis

Chief football writer

If FA chairman Greg Dyke has realistic hopes of watching England fulfil his goal of winning the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, then a move to hold the tournament in winter would slightly improve his chances.

England's players - whoever they may be then - would clearly be more comfortable if the World Cup was moved away from a time of the year when temperatures could touch 40C and above.

It is perfectly understandable, however, that the Premier League would take an opposing view as the bid was won on the basis of holding the World Cup in summer and with the self-interest of avoiding disruption to their own competition.

From a purely footballing point of view England's players would benefit from playing in milder conditions and would also be less jaded than if the World Cup was played at the conclusion of a long Premier League season.

How the fk does a team that squeaked into the finals get into a  group that surely gives them a walk through to the next round whilst others that performed much better in qualifying are faced with some far tougher opposition in their "assigned" group ?

Unfuckingbelievable

Compare the group that France are in

Switzerland, Ecuador, France, Honduras

to the one that England are in

Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy

IMO the fix is already in , fk off Platini and the rest of the hogs with their noses in the trough  :veryangry
