I must be one of the few people that thought Gerrard had a mixed game.

He set up England's first goal, but was at fault for being too deep for Nasri's equaliser and a few of his passes and touches went astray.

He was definitely too deep for the goal.

They both were.

But for me the keeper and back four should be talking more there.

I thought he broke things up really well and for the majority of the game kept in simple.
He also played the pass of the match in the first half right up the right wing whipped in behind the left back.
His delivery for the goal was world class as well.

One thing about giving the ball away, he does often at times but i dont think he did today.
Also in a 4-4-2 there are often not many options on.

Honestly think you are being harsh on him mate.

Off course they were too deep - they will be every game , it's called "Hodgeball"

Two banks of rigid solid 4's sat on Harts toe's .

It's called the English game and that's how England have always played. What Hodgson is trying to do is get England to play to the best of their abilities and that is what you saw in the match against France.

England can play no better because none of the players on show today are technically gifted footballers.

Shevchenko has scored 2 goals, at 35 he's still doing the business.

That's not how they played anyway.

They did at times and i dont think anyone can argue France and most of the european sides are better technically.

We werent exactly camped in our own box though.

The Roy haters wont offer any praise but they did better than i expected.

I agree with Ben, England haven't set the world alight, but they've done OK.  France are on a 20+ game run without a loss, and today I saw little to show they're better than us.

Roy has done what Sven and Capello couldn't do and that's get a result against France. I actually had France to win 2-1 tonight, so England deserve credit. However this is the top gear that England can reach in my opinion. People waiting for England to improve will be left bitterly disappointed. England will probably beat Sweden and Ukraine based on this evening's performance, but they'll come up against Croatia, Italy or Spain in the Quarters and I'm afraid that Roy's tactic of containment and break on the counter will not work against such teams.

England's problems are they cannot keep possession of the football, they spend most of their time chasing after the football. They counter-attack through the middle, now if you play against a team that plays 3 in the middle with 2 center backs behind them, that's automatically 5 v 2 or 3. This is what happened this evening, Welbeck, Young or Oxlade-Chamberlain would surge forward only to be picked off by the French midfield and defence.

Another thing that is worrying is how England will score a goal and automatically sit back and invite pressure on themselves. Why not keep the tempo and go and get another goal? England's second-half performance was just chasing after the ball and unfortunately France lacked the cutting edge to break through hence why Benzema was hitting long shots at goal.

France are not the best team in the competition, so it will be great to see England qualify and then come up against Italy or Spain and see if their philosophy of contain and counter-attack can actually bear positive results. I think England can be happy with the result and performance this evening, Roy deserves credit for getting his tactics right.

Elmander spurns a great chance to put Sweden level with Ukraine.

I saw that pass, that was sublime from Gerrard. I thought he did ok but playing him deep isn't helping, he needs to go forward and press higher, but it won't happen.

I thought Oxelade had a poor game to be honest, definitely needs more experience in top level to be considered in the starting eleven of the national team

I think Carroll should have been given a chance. Welbeck was awful.

As for Gerrard, though he had a good game. Great cross for the goal and I think he did OK in defense too, apart from the goal where he was a bit at fault. And that pass for Young was world class. Too bad Young couldn't use it.

Nothing. I agree he's anonymous.

Carroll should have come on, that Mexes and Rami wouldn't have handled him.
