No just the Glory LionH, i think the A-league has far exceeded my expectations though there is still room for improvement.
Glory have been racked with internal strife and have been very disappointing especially as being the blueprint for A-league clubs

Agreed but the biggest disappointment for me has been N.Z. I was hoping they would have at least a competative team but If you can't get a competative team on the park from the entire nation then something is saddly lacking in N.Z. football. As a consequence to that, it is probably a good thing that Football Australia opted out of Oceania and into Asia. Oceania will be will be the laughing stock of world football and I can't see how there will be any improvement.

The other aspect re. the A-League was the inconsistencies in team performances. Adelaide is the only team that showed any consistency. All teams (except N.Z.) showed what they were capable of at some stage but nothing consistent and if you want the crowds to keep coming back they need to know their team will give it a shot, rather than roll over and lay down which so many teams did this year.

Year 2 will be interesting.    :)

Year 2 will be interesting but first the finals where we have this strange situation where Adelaide could end as a undeserving bridesmaid after a year of domination

The total injustice of the finals series has come home to roost.

I stated many weeks ago that it would be just plain wrong to see anyone but Adelaide United crowned as the first champions of Australia's A-League.

Adelaide is the only team that showed any consistency to their football throughout the season. They were crowned 'MINOR' champions.

Four teams then went into a final four playoff (very American concept).

Grand final next week will be between Central Coast Mariners & Sydney F.C. - Adelaide (the most consistent team in the league has been eliminated).

Garbage end to an otherwise good introductory year of A-League football in Australia. I'll choose to boycott next week's 'Grand' final. In my book Adelaide are the 2006 champions. History won't show it that way!!!

I dunno about the American concept, its also a very Aussie Rules concept and its a joke.
Though good luck to Central Coast , a team on a shoestring about glamour side Sydney.
More interested in the Asian cup qualifier though these days

Yeah Laza...Aussie rules is an Australian connection for the finals series concept. My club have had to work damn hard to have the concept ruled out here is Tassie too. We finished second last season (our season goal) then went into a 'Final Five' series and didn't win a game. It then gave other teams 'bragging' rights to say they they were better than us. The finals series is nothing more than a money making exercise, and a cynical one at that!!

I'm looking forward to the latter stages of the Asian Cup. I watched the game against Bahrain the other morning...very poor standard in the first half but picked up in the second. I think Bahrain actually thought they were in with a chance. Did you hear their coach was sacked after that defeat??

Australia should/will be considered as one of the 'big boys' of Asian football once we get a ranking sorted out. Not many nations know what our standard is like. Bahrain got a bit of a shock me thinks.        :lookaround

Yeah it was good win considering it was basically the Aussie second XI

While i wasnt really convinced about moving to Asia, i think playing in this competition far more interesting and appealing then smacking Solomon Islands around

I know what your saying phil, far too americanised. I went to see Philadelphia Charge (womens team), in philadelphia funnily enough, about 6 years ago - it was like going to a fete or school fair!. The game was played at a college, they had 4 stands and in between they had various stools with games and prizes. At half time they had a camera crew going round the stands interviewing people. Totally weird experience. I can imagine austalia being the same or similar

Australia isn't done like that. Its done very professionally, and a lot of the support comes from English ex-pats or person who already support a European club. I went to the first Queensland game, and I sat in the general seating, next to a Manure supporter and a Villan, on the train there people came with Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen shirts to name a few. My next game, I sat in "the Den" second row from the front directly behind the goal, where some kid put a Chelsea flag over the signage in front of us, because I was later going to a pub to watch the LFC vs Manure @ Anfield league match, I had my Champions of Europe flag with me, so I hung it right next to his CFC flag. He didn't look impressed but he wasn't gonna say anything.

Its performed in a very slick manner, my only complaint is the finals series at the end, I agree that 21 games is too short (8 teams) so I suggest they stretch it to 28 games a season.

Having said that, I find A-League football painful and frustrating to watch.

I'd like to add that unfortunately Dwight Yorke is in tomorrow's A-League Grand Final.

I suppose you would imagine it is that way too. I have noticed that a lot of your conclusion are based on ignorance. Can I suggest you do some research before offering an opinion. That way you look less like an ignorant :censored:.

As much as I claimed that I wouldn't wantch the final, I have to admit that I did.

The winner??  Australian football. Good quality game. Good crowd (biggest crowd on record for a NSW club match). Good atmosphere.

Still don't like the 'finals' concept though!!

Finals concept did suck, felt sorry for Adelaide. I reckon though that they should drop the finals and extend it from 21 rounds to 28. Hey Lionheart, do you know how they decide who gets into the Asian Champions League? Iwas kinda going for Central Coast because they weren't Sydney, they dominated most of the match and were unlucky to lose.

I think Sydney qualifies for Asian Champions League but NOT for this year...I believe (but don't quote me on it). :;):

I just read an article on Fox Sports News that Australia wont be allowed. Article Here But that is only because Australia wasn't admitted into Asia until its was too late. Two Australian teams will be allowed next year. Head of Operations for the FFA said that while they weren't completely sure, the most likely will be the winners of the minor premiership and the grand final. If its the same team then the losing grand finalist would be in.

Exactly, this was what I was referring to, but the minor premiers are Adelaide NOT Central Coast
