Was anyone else impressed with the performances and improvement of Giovani Dos Santos ? he finally looks like the player Ronaldinho lauded as a talent and
I may be the only one ,but I think with Suarez leaving he's exactly the type of tricky talented player we need to fill the void ,and I'm guessing he wouldn't cost
the earth..... Below is the obligatory video ,but for me personally his performances for Villarreal and Mexico respectively have been creeping up for the last two
years in terms of quality ....Worth a punt ?

There are players out there who could comfortably provide the unpredictability and genius of Suarez, if perhaps not on the same level ,but I definitely feel we should
be casting our nets further than Swansea  :D

Sky picking up the Bony link....

We are hearing Liverpool are stepping up their interest in Swansea striker Wilfried Bony. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to add to his attacking options with Luis Suarez on the verge of a move to Barcelona and Bony is thought to figure highly on Rodgers' wanted list. Liverpool are believed to have sounded out Bony's agents about a possible move to Anfield with a number of other Premier League clubs also monitoring the Ivory Coast star's situation at Swansea.

if it wasn't for us signing Markovic this summer would be a total wash out.
We are on the verge of losing the third best player in the world and replacing him with Lambert and Bony, two mid table strikers (this is at a time when two of our top 4 rivals are significantly upgrading their strike forces by signing Sanchez and Costa).
We need to reduce the number of goals we ship in so again what do we do? Go to the same two mid table clubs that we bought our strikers from (Swansea and Southampton) and try to buy a CB (Lovren) and LB (Davies) for £30m.
You'd think Southampton and Swansea are the only two clubs on the face of the planet the way we carry on.

Re Markovic, James Pearce (Echo) says Lazar Markovic medical, which was supposed to take place today, has been delayed due to 'logistical issues'. Now likely to be Fri/Sat

Liverpool want to revive a deal for full-back Alberto Moreno.

Manager Brendan Rodgers' hopes of signing Moreno have stalled because the two clubs have been unable to agree a fee.

Sevilla sporting director Monchi suggested last month that any prospect of a deal was finished.

But the Reds - who value the left-back at 16 million pounds - remain interested if a compromise can be found, sources have told ESPN FC.

Sevilla are seeking 20 million pounds, but Liverpool are not prepared to go that high for the 22-year-old, who has played three times for Spain but missed out on their final 2014 World Cup squad.

Rodgers has made strengthening his defence a priority as he bids to build on the achievements of last season, when Liverpool finished second in the Premier League.

He is keen to sign a left-back despite the return to fitness of Jose Enrique, who missed the final six months of last season with a knee problem.

A move for Chelsea's Ryan Bertrand is a possibility, but Moreno is the preferred option for Rodgers if a deal can be done.

Bony's an OK player but do we really need him? We should concentrate on a goal scoring winger (since Markovic isn't one) rather than on another striker. And for 20 million? Seriously?

Don't agree with those stating we don't need Bony (or at least someone who can play his position).

Sturridge is prone to the odd injury and if he picks one up we can't rely on a 32 yr old backup striker to play 2 games per week.  Aspas will be gone (hopefully) and Borini will either be gone or still here and inadequate.  With Suarez's impending departure we absolutely need another centre forward.

Bony is a quality player who is a realistic target, unlike the likes of Cavani, Benzema, Rodriguez etc that some muppets will no doubt whinge about us not going for.  He is a good finisher and links play well outside the box too, I could see him being a very good signing to be honest.

Sanchez is a player I liked too, but even he is no guarantee to be a success in this league.  He's not really lived up to his billing in Barcelona and 30million euro is a big risk for Arsenal imo, especially after Wenger's last 'marquee signing' in Ozil had a far from convincing first season.  Likewise with Chelsea and Diego Costa - no guarantees.  They know better than anyone after a combined 80 million wasted on Shevchenko and Torres, 'proven world class players', in recent seasons.

Some people need to take stock of where we are as a club and what our pulling power actually is for some of the players people expect us to sign.  Yes we are one of the most famous clubs in the world with great history and are back in the CL.  But we have a manager who is unknown to most of these foreign stars (and therefore has no real pulling power...yet) and 2007 was the last time we seriously looked like doing anything significant in European competition.  Not meaning to offend anyone, but living in Liverpool is just not the same draw as Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Munich or London (even though I can't fking stand London myself - again no offence to anyone from there).  Don't get me wrong Liverpool is a great city, but to some of these foreign stars who have their pick of where to relocate their families it can be a difficult sell.  And not to mention the wages, where we will struggle to compete with City, Chelsea, United and even Arsenal as the debt starts to clear on the Emirates and the matchday funds they now generate.  Then you've got the weather and the language compared to Spain when it comes to signing (and keeping) Latin players.

For me, buying players in their early to mid 20's who are already good players but with the potential to step it up to the next level (eg Suarez, Coutinho, Sturridge, Henderson etc, and maybe Lallana, Can, Bony) is the way we need to go and I support the club's policy on this.  Yes you will get flops like Aspas, Borini (and several more before someone decides to list them), but the reality is this is where we are at.

Good post, just to add about moving to Liverpool that the wives are very important in deciding where to live. Players probably don't care to much but the wives care a lot. Probably a major reason why Suarez is leaving.

Only one player has turned us down and that's Sanchez, I just don't buy all that stuff about us finding it hard to attract players, I just think the club are deliberately setting their sights low.
I'm sure if we went for Rodriguez (the fullback from Wolfsburg) or Draxler from Shalke or players of that ilk a lot of them would be prepared to come here. Moreno is generally regarded as an up and coming star of Spanish football and he was more than happy to sign for us until we baulked at Sevilla's £20m asking price. Markovic too is regarded as one of Europe's top young talents and he turned down the chance to join Chelsea to come here, Lallana turned down United.
Brendan is an unbelievable coach but from the moment he walked through the door at the club it soon became obvious that he isn't very ambitious in the transfer market. You only have to look at how many of his mates we are linked with to see that.
I'm sorry JC but if you think the likes of Bertrand, Davies and Bony are the best this club can attract then I think you are very much mistaken.

Over on RAWK they seem to think Chelsea have turned down an official £6m bid from us for Bertrand, apparently they value him at £8m.
£75m burning a hole in our pockets and Bertrand is the best we can do? Give me a break
Another one of Brendan's mates like Allen, Borini and Moses.
