I'm sure if we went for Rodriguez (the fullback from Wolfsburg) or Draxler from Shalke or players of that ilk a lot of them would be prepared to come here. Moreno is generally regarded as an up and coming star of Spanish football and he was more than happy to sign for us until we baulked at Sevilla's £20m asking price. Markovic too is regarded as one of Europe's top young talents and he turned down the chance to join Chelsea to come here, Lallana turned down United.
Brendan is an unbelievable coach but from the moment he walked through the door at the club it soon became obvious that he isn't very ambitious in the transfer market. You only have to look at how many of his mates we are linked with to see that.
I'm sorry JC but if you think the likes of Bertrand, Davies and Bony are the best this club can attract then I think you are very much mistaken.

i agree.
wouldnt like to see us even try and plug the suarez hole with bony. he has a decent scoring record but is too much of a headless chicken imo, always looking at his feet when dribbling and tries to clatter through players because he doesnt have the pace or guile to beat them.
we should be aiming a lot higher than that, especially seen as we have money and the illusive CL football next season.
utd and city dont seem to have a problem attracting players to the north of england and manchester is about as bad a kip as you can get. these days most of the players only socialise at each others houses and the odd charity thing in the limelight. it isnt like it was years ago where they where out caning it every week and twice as hard if they won.

So Sanchez to Arsenal is official. Would suspect won't be long before the Suarez deal is announced.

Yeah, great signing for them IMO.
Not looking forward to seeing the likes of Lovren and Bertrand trying to keep him, Walcott, Ramsey, Ozil, Oxlade-Chamberlain etc at bay.

Once again highlighting how worried I am as each day goes by.

There has to be a certain way that we as fans make it specifically clear to Rodgers, Ayres and Henry & co that replacing Suarez with Wilfred f**king Bony and this 19yo Origi kid from Belgium is simply unacceptable. Heads will roll for this unmitigated disaster if it were to happen.

Common sense needs to prevail and we need to find a high profile replacement for Suarez BEFORE he departs.

The problem is that I think we are having a very hard time attracting world class players, such as the recent turn of events with Alexis Sanchez

I don't understand the criticism of Allen. No, he probably wasn't worth what we paid him, but I honestly think he's a good footballer. He hasn't had the best of luck, but I still see him as somebody who can be a genuinely importantly player for us when we have a busier schedule next season.

Arsenal finally broke the bank for a player last year in Ozil, and now it looks like they're going to be going all out on signings... Just what we need. Sanchez will do well in this league I'm afraid.

They can buy all the midfielders and attackers they like, they'll still have a dire manager and inept defence.

I don't rate Sanchez as highly as you do BUT he's deffo miles ahead of anyone we've so far been linked with.

Despite almost winning the prem last season "world class" players are perhaps considering who's leaving us and more importantly what we're apparently aiming to bring in ! Maybe they're thinking our reappearance in the CL will be a brief one.

Either that or despite Brendans pre-season declarations maybe we're just not prepared to cough up the required amount of cash for proven quality.

NAPOLI president Aurelio De Laurentiis has denied that Gonzalo Higuain can be bought for £55m and instead revealed the striker has an £80m release clause.

Higuain has been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool in recent times but it seems that the Premier League trio would have to pay an astronomical fee to land the former Real Madrid man.

De Laurentiis told the Corriere dello Sport: "Some of you wrote that I should've written a €70m (£55m) release clause into his contract.

"Well, I can tell you that last year when I signed Higuain's contract there was a €100m (£80m) release clause.

"As you can see, the media are always misinformed. They dive into these stories and hypothesise, but do you really think that after 10 years running a club, someone who comes from cinema and produced more than 400 films doesn't know how to write a player's contract?

"Do you believe I am someone who doesn't know how to negotiate a good deal?

"I really like Higuain, he is an exceptional person and very well-mannered. So as long as our rapport continues to work, I see no problems."

The Premier League clubs were dealt a further blow in their pursuit of Higuain - who has been starring for Argentina in the World Cup - when the player revealed earlier this week that he is happy in Italy.

He said: "I have a contract with Napoli that makes me very happy.

"The Partenopei club (Napoli) has always treated me very well since I arrived."

Liverpool are in advanced talks with Swansea over Bony, meeting with agent. Also making move for Remy. (Sky Sports)

Remy would be ideal for us. Going for £8m and can play all across the frontline.

Totally agree with Remy, he is a natural finisher and very under rated and at that price is a bargain

... sadly the Bony story is gathering a lot of pace, quite sadly really, worried he will be another Carroll :(

Don't worry Woof, I will gladly point out how many goals and assists Sanchez comes back with at the end of next season if you need me to.  :rasp

Although your comments remind me of the rubbish I was reading last season on this forum about another certain Chilean.

"But he has NEVER won anything"  "Man City to miss out on the top 4 with this unknown manager"   "He failed at Madrid so he will definitely fail at Man City" ....... embarrassing.

Anyway back to us, I certainly can't see us challenging on any fronts with the dross we are being linked to.

CL, with Bony,  we will be out in straight sets......  :no

Bony is a "decent" player.. but if he's a replacement for Suarez then that's a massive worry.
I consider him more of a backup for Sturridge incase of Injuries of lack of fitness.

We need to replace world class with world class otherwise we will take 5 steps back and potentially dwindle away money we won't have to spend again.

Is it just me who finds it puzzling ,that when we were out of the Champions League all those connected with the club would regularly inform us this made us less of an attractive proposition for the quality of the incoming players ...... Yet the f*cking Mancs seem to be doing just fine with their absence from Europe,by signing and being seemingly involved in negotiations for top players ,the latest being Di Maria.  ??? I mean are we seriously going to sit around whilst Arsenal and United cherry pick from
Europes most talented players ,whilst we battle Spudz for Swansea and Southampton players ?
