Don't agree with those stating we don't need Bony (or at least someone who can play his position).
Sturridge is prone to the odd injury and if he picks one up we can't rely on a 32 yr old backup striker to play 2 games per week. Aspas will be gone (hopefully) and Borini will either be gone or still here and inadequate. With Suarez's impending departure we absolutely need another centre forward.
Bony is a quality player who is a realistic target, unlike the likes of Cavani, Benzema, Rodriguez etc that some muppets will no doubt whinge about us not going for. He is a good finisher and links play well outside the box too, I could see him being a very good signing to be honest.
Sanchez is a player I liked too, but even he is no guarantee to be a success in this league. He's not really lived up to his billing in Barcelona and 30million euro is a big risk for Arsenal imo, especially after Wenger's last 'marquee signing' in Ozil had a far from convincing first season. Likewise with Chelsea and Diego Costa - no guarantees. They know better than anyone after a combined 80 million wasted on Shevchenko and Torres, 'proven world class players', in recent seasons.
Some people need to take stock of where we are as a club and what our pulling power actually is for some of the players people expect us to sign. Yes we are one of the most famous clubs in the world with great history and are back in the CL. But we have a manager who is unknown to most of these foreign stars (and therefore has no real pulling power...yet) and 2007 was the last time we seriously looked like doing anything significant in European competition. Not meaning to offend anyone, but living in Liverpool is just not the same draw as Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Munich or London (even though I can't fking stand London myself - again no offence to anyone from there). Don't get me wrong Liverpool is a great city, but to some of these foreign stars who have their pick of where to relocate their families it can be a difficult sell. And not to mention the wages, where we will struggle to compete with City, Chelsea, United and even Arsenal as the debt starts to clear on the Emirates and the matchday funds they now generate. Then you've got the weather and the language compared to Spain when it comes to signing (and keeping) Latin players.
For me, buying players in their early to mid 20's who are already good players but with the potential to step it up to the next level (eg Suarez, Coutinho, Sturridge, Henderson etc, and maybe Lallana, Can, Bony) is the way we need to go and I support the club's policy on this. Yes you will get flops like Aspas, Borini (and several more before someone decides to list them), but the reality is this is where we are at.
