And now the deal has supposedly stalled because Barca have allegedly offered £20m less than Liverpool are prepared to accept? That comes as absolutely no surprise but JUST WHO DO YOU WANT TO BELIEVE?  Interesting that no other clubs are trying to hijack this deal. Last summer it was all about Real Madrid. This summer it's Barca !!  There never seems to be a battle for Suarez's signature. The same thing happened (I think) when he was sold by Ajax and don't forget he was banned at the time. This will be Suarez's third major move and each one has been littered with controversy. He went on strike to get his move to Ajax. He was banned when he signed for Liverpool. He will again be under a ban if he is sold this summer. Amazing footballer and I really hope the Barca deal fails because their fkg attitude makes me sick and it is not good for football. Also it would be interesting just to see what Luis's reaction would be.

Radio Merseyside are saying that the deal has hit a snag because Liverpool want Alexis Sanchez to be part of the deal. Maybe the club have realised that it's not the best idea to sell your best player especially if the player you've targeted as his replacement is off to one of your rivals.

I'd be really surprised if we get the £70m to £80m being quoted in some sources.

Barcelona are notorious for under valuing players they go after - think Cesc, Henry, Maschereno etc. and think they will try to get him as cheaply as possible. Its key that the board stand firm on this and don't waiver for us to get the best deal. However I have a sinking feeling that we will end up getting around £50 - 60m for him as I think it has become clear that we aren't too keen on keeping him around simply by entering into formal talks with Barcelona and lack of dialogue from Brendan etc.

Obviously when the enivitable happens and he leaves - think it will be a massive loss. He's a cracking player and has scored some absolute worldies for us over the past few years.

Be interesting to see who is brought in and also how he absence affects the likes of Strurridge, Couthinho, Henderson etc. I have a sneaking feeling we may see them up their game in certain areas. Whenever we were losing in big games I alway felt Suarez was too involved and trying to change the game himself. With him gone we may become more effective as a team in situations like that.

Alexis Sanchez had made it clear he didn't want to come to Liverpool but preferred Arsenal. At first, I thought, if he doesn't want to be here, then F**k him, let's have a straight 80M cash deal and we look for someone else. But then, it could be that Sanchez was trying to get back at his employers for not valuing him and for using him as a sacrificial porn to get someone else to take over his role at Barca. So it could be that since he felt not appreciated at Barca, he wanted them to pay the full price for Suarez and for another club to pay for what he is really worth for his ego sake. I most probably would have done the same if I were him. Had Liverpool come to Barca with a straight cash deal to sign him, he probably wouldn't have turned us down flat like he had done.

Our defence definitely need reinforcement. But since we cannot get Moreno, BR is lining up R.Bertrand of Chelsea for our left back position. Call me naive if you like, but based on what I've seen him in action from the youtube videos, he doesn't look impressive. His standards is not much different to Cissokho whom we have just returned back. I believe BR will be making a huge mistake signing Bertrand. Even Andy Carroll looked impressive on youtube with Newcastle, but this Bertrand lad on youtube looks very average, and we cannot have average players if we want to progress as far as we can in the CL and to improve one place up in the PL.

Errr Bertrand although not a great left back is twice the player sissoko is.

The lad is young and a decent prospect. He was a regular in the Chelsea team under matteo Also.

You tube must be as good a gauge of player as championship manager!!!!  :rasp

What we do with the Suarez money will be absolutely crucial, spend it wisely and we could set ourselves up for the next decade but fritter it away like Spurs and we'll be back at square one.
We don't get many opportunities to spend £60m-£70m in a summer so we must make the most of it, we are not a petro dollar club so we'll only get one shot as this.

Is £60M much money though these days??? With the new TV deal coming in it seems to have created a step change in prices looking at Shaw for 34m, Lallana for 25m and Lovren for £20m?!?! I don't think we can replace the player that Suarez is, but we can improve the team with the right signings.

I don't have a clue who they are and doesn't matter who we speculate about as BR and the club will already have targets in mind etc.

Regarding Spurs - last year i thought they had bought well haha - lamela, eriksen, salado etc seemed good buys..... It would be a disaster if our summer turned out like that.

Yeah good point that about spurs's signings looking solid buys at the time, if I recall some sections of the media were even  tipping them for the title!
I wouldn't rule out Pocchetino going there and getting something out of the likes of Lamela and Soldado.

Spurs went overboard with their signings last summer. I may be wrong but I think they were all from abroad. Expecting that number of players without any experience in England to do the business is just silly. Will be interesting to see how they get on next season.

With that in mind, at least we know Lallana is capable of doing the business in this league, even though he cost twice as much as that Eriksen (I wasn't too sure about him but think we may have missed a trick by not signing him)

I remember quite a few members of this forum claiming that they went from nothing to title contenders with their purchase as well.  :D

I was one of them but my prediction was top 4, not the title.

Who would have thought that over 100 million pounds spent would make your team worse off.

Please Rodgers use them as an example, stop buying potential and buy the finished product.

at the end of the day we got to be logical and rationale that barca will never pay a cent more than the release clause in suarez's contract.
if the release clause is 63m p and we think that it is too little or unfair then we got to blame our management for putting that amt into the contract.
the torres carroll episode wasnt much a confidence booster, is our management stupid enu to put in a release clause of <70m p?
absolutely.
but on the other hand FSG is not exactly that stupid and i hope that we can get to sell suarez at his truth value with is near to 80m p

Tabarez on a deal with Barcelona for Suarez being agreed before World Cup.

Luis had told me about the Barcelona interest in November last year a few days before the Jordan match. At that time the talks between Liverpool and Barcelona were very good and an agreement was arranged back then.

After the amazing season he had Liverpool did not want to sell him understandably and they began to back out of the deal they made with Barcelona in November last year.

Luis got word of this a day after the victory against England. He was a changed man, he got upset and his head was elsewhere. He could barely train with the rest of the team. I had to have him train with a different group from the main squad.

I find it incredible that Liverpool would want to do business with any team before the bite  ???
