Liverpool needs him more than he needs Liverpool. To keep him, we need to win the PL, secure a few quality signings up front and midfield to show our ambitions and the big 2 in Spain don't want him. As far as I can see, I don't see any of those 3 happening. Top 4 finish maybe but to win the PL this season is totally out of the question. Without CL and FSG's reluctance to invest, it is hard to secure such signings. With the rate he's going now, all the top clubs in PL and Europe will be beating down his door for his signature. So we should enjoy his presence while he's still here and the most I can hope for is a big price like 85M to sell him and with top 4 finish hopefully, we can secure some quality replacements wisely not like AVB.
Some people thought we needed Torres more than he needs us. Look at his reputation now...
Many top players have left over the years and I struggle to think of one that achieved more in terms of both reputation and trophies.
Some players went on to win trophies but their reputations were never the same. Torres, Owen, even Mascherano to an extent.
Owen had lost his pace when he left, Torres has lost his confidence and also half a yard and Mascherano was never as good as he was made out to be.
Suarez is different to all of the above. He's far and away the best player I've ever seen in a red shirt. He's a genius who'd improve every side in the world.
Alonso left and his reputation remained the same if not increased, Xabi was a great player and Luis is far better than Xabi could ever dream of being... that's saying something.
alonso and suraez are two totally different players,
comparing the two is like "i love drinking beer more than eating ramen but my favorite is going sky diving"
i think giving suraez the cap's arm band is a smart move. it improves his performance, attachment to club (hopefully) and responsibility. i rmb during the spurs game, someone clipped him in his heel, he kneel down, and try to hook the ball towards goal instead of looking for a penalty.
we have got to keep our best players to have a chance of winning the league, players like owen, torres, masch and macca.
when these two were homegrown boys, you'd roughly know where players loyalty lies.
at the end of the day, if we got champ league qualification then chances of him staying is like 70%.
