Luis Suarez signs for Barcelona

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers claims he would only entertain a 'Gareth Bale' sized bid to consider selling wantaway star Luis Surarez.

The Reds have already rejected two offers this summer from Arsenal for the striker, with the second believed to be £1 above the £40m mark.

However, Rodgers is convinced his player is worth at least double that amount and points towards Real Madrid's move for the Tottenham winger as indication of the type of money he would be seeking.

The Northern Irishman said: "Every player has a valuation but you have to look at the market. With Gareth Bale they are talking about £100m and Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez were arguably the two best players in the Premier League last season.

"You can't say that Gareth Bale is valued at over 100 per cent more. We are a club with strong beliefs in what we are doing and nobody will be moving out of here.

"There is, of course, a point where you only want players who are totally 100 per cent committed to being here and I have spoken to Luis countless times over the course of the summer.

"Speculation can be difficult for players but he is back training and back working. The more he is around the group here, the more he is around the great support here, the more he will understand."

it`s that caveat he threw in about only wanting players who are 100% committed to the club thats got me worried, thats why i think he`ll leave, we arent the type of club to keep players who dont want to be here.
if he does go i hope the club arent stupid enough to sell him to one of our direct rivals.

I feel he's saying that because he's also saying we want to keep him.  We only keep players that are 100% committed, and we want to keep him, so he's 100% committed.

I'm not saying he's 100% committed, but I think that's the message BR is trying to get across.

yeah maybe so mate, also i wasnt too keen to hear wenger in his post match press conference say he was refusing to discuss the suarez situation because he wanted to honour liverpools wish to keep any discussions confidential, he said he wanted to keep the whole thing amicable.
hope we arent saying one thing in public and something else behind the scene`s.

The only way he is leaving is if he takes it to court and/or hands in transfer request as I am 100 % certain Arsenal will not bid 50+ million
and LFC will not accept bids under 50 million unless if forced by court to accept lower.
And if LFC is somehow forced to sell him for 40 million it would be a monumentus **** up.

And like I said before, it's imo a win-win for Wenger and Arsenal.

So what if they don't get him? They haven't lost anything. They could get someone else if it doesn't materialize.
But they ***** of LFC, Suarez and messes with our preseason and start of the season as we need a commited Suarez to even have a shot at 4th.
Which in turn helps Arsenal, who are favourites for 4th.

Well, only other way is if the Bale transfer to Real fall through, cause then RM will show how to not run a football club and remind everyone why
they hate RM.

I both agree and disagree with your stance -- On one hand, any player(s) that do not put in 100% for the privilege of wearing the read shirt, while being paid handsomely and as a professional sportsman in general need to be rid of. But then again if we have pea for the size of our balls, then every managers, greedy players and their agents will want to bully or to engineer an angle to force a move for more money at every transfer window.

I said if he refuses to play under contract or if he is stupid enough to take the club to the court, then I say throw him with the reserve and make him sit and rot during this World Cup year...this is no time to take the easy way out and the club really need to grow some really big balls and be smarter in our dealings. I looked at how Daniel Levy knew Real is after Bale and he played hardball and making sure every media print that he is not selling , thus hiking the price tag to a ridiculous level. Imagine we being bullied by Arsenal and Suarez in this deal and we selling our best player to a close rival for a mere £40,000,001, we will be the laughing stock for years to come

Exactly.

First of all I'm not convinced he would take us court knowing that there is almost a certain chance he will lose.

Second as mentioned if he is stupid enough to break his contract by either not playing or pushing things through the courts (where the outcome is inevitable), then he can sit him in the reserves. We should under no circumstances bullied by a player or club to sell, if we do we might as well shut down the club right now.

Thirdly if Bale does go for this stupid reported amount of 100m, then that instantly should be the price tag slapped on Suarez for any club.

As for the gooners they can get f**ked for all I care, hopefully the silly f**kers get knocked out in the CL playoffs.

He has already taken one club to court knowing that he possibly wouldn't win and still did

And shoving Suarez into the reserves will never happen - its great to think that but in reality it will be just counter productive. Might as well sell him and use the money to buy a couple quality players.

And Suarez will never go for the same as Bale regardless of the ability.

Pepe Reina reckons Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is likely to leave Anfield

Last Updated: August 4, 2013 10:20am

Pepe Reina: On loan Napoli keeper reckons Luis Suarez will leave Liverpool

On loan Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina believes Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is likely to follow him out of Anfield this summer.

The Liverpool stopper, who is on loan with Napoli this season reckons Suarez will only be allowed to leave on the club's terms though.

Reina said: "It looks like he's going to leave, but at the end of the day the club says he's their players and they must take the decision."

Meanwhile Reina is relishing the prospect of playing in the Champions League once again, and challenging for the Serie A title with Napoli.

"It's a new challenge right now for me and I'm looking forward to playing in the Champions League which was a missing competition for us in the last three or four years," Reina added.

"It's what every player can wish to play every year - the Champions League is the biggest tournament at club level and to fight for the Scudetto is one of the targets as well."

Fuk what pepe thinks, fuk what wenger says and good on BR for stating that it will take a huge bid. I get the feeling it's going to get messy.

I'm not sure Arsenal overtures are messing with our preseason when you consider Suarez ban.
If he is keen to go I don't really see the point In keeping him as long as we get what we value him at

One thing i dont want to see is he sees  out his ban as a Liverpool player and then come January transfer.
This all comes out in boil again an as non cup tied player he could chased by other League rivals other then Arsenal who are in CL

I have watched Pepe's interview and by the expression on his face the bowl of grapes he'd just eaten were very fkg sour !! Pepe you had a great career with Liverpool. You earned more money in a day than a lot of people earn in a year. Your performances over the last two years had shown signs that you were no longer at the top of your game. Your agent, your father and yourself have made overtures about Barca. Have some dignity and shut the fk up !!

If he does stay when the window closes then it will be 12 months of speculation and possibly smaller bids in the Jan. The next two weeks before the season starts will see the speculation increase to massive levels and that's when I think we will see Madrid coming to the table. If they get Bale there are rumours that Ronaldo will leave which will then allow them to get Suarez, also think Bayern will show some interest and possibly Chelsea if they don't get Rooney. One big deal could trigger it all off

John Barnes thinks Liverpool should get rid of Luis Suarez as soon as possible

LIVERPOOL legend John Barnes has implored the club to part company with Luis Suarez as soon as they can.

Luis Suarez has been heavily backed to leave Liverpool
The troubled Uruguayan has been the subject of unrelenting speculation during this transferwindow, with Arsenal and Real Madrid courting him.

The Gunners have already seen two bids turned down and are expecting to come back with a third one worth £42.5m.

Suarez has been heavily backed to join the Gunners even though Brendan Rodgers insists his prize asset is not for sale.

He is thought to be keen to move to a club that will play Champions League football, which Liverpool can't provide.

But Barnes thinks Suarez should cash in on the player before the situation becomes even more unsettling.

"We’ve seen in the past when transfers go down to the last minute that it doesn’t help anybody, especially for a club like Liverpool who, if they lose Suarez, would have to find a big-name replacement," Barnes told talkSPORT.

"I’d like it to be done sooner rather than later because if it goes down to the last day, and you then have to go and get somebody, it’s not ideal.

"As far as Suarez is concerned, if he’s not going to be happy, then he has to go.

"We can all say, ‘yes, we think Suarez is going to be a player like Carlos Tevez, who gives 100 per cent no matter what’ but we don’t know what his mental state is going to be if he doesn’t get his wish [to leave the club]."

Suarez was in explosive form, scoring 30 goals in all competitions last season for Liverpool.
