Arsenal have had a £30 million bid for Luis Suarez rejected by Liverpool, according to reports in the British media.

EmpicsLiverpool have braced themselves to receive offers for Suarez

The Telegraph and The Times have revealed the Gunners' first concrete offer for the Uruguay international was swiftly turned down, with the fee falling well short of Liverpool's expectations.

Reports last month suggested the Reds would only consider offloading their striker for around £50 million, making Arsenal's offer incredibly audacious.

Despite Liverpool's insistence that Suarez is not for sale, they have given him until July 22, right before the club's pre-season trip to Australia, to sort out his future.

Arsenal's interest has been simmering for some weeks now and a move to the Emirates could come as a shock after Suarez's open statements that it is the English media, not Liverpool, that would force him into an exit from Anfield.

It is unclear whether Arsenal will make an improved offer for Suarez, with the door now ajar for Real Madrid to consider an approach for the 26-year-old.

Apparently the bid took so long because Arsene had to break open all his childhood piggy banks and count all the pennies he had since he was 5 years old.

30 million

With no CL football and for top players these days it the holy trail. Brendon would have to convince whoever that we are progressing, which is not going to be easy

If he does leave, I don't think it will be a case of replacing him one for one. It will be more about strengthening our weaker areas like on the wings, at CB and to a lesser extent at DM. Building a more balanced and consistent and solid tram will be the key to our success...

You're absolutely right there. Of course he's a football genius and I'd love to see him with us next season but it looks like he will leave but winning games is a team work and effort anyway. So if we can use the funds we can get from him to strengthen our weak areas, all is not lost. Without him around, it would be hard to finish in top 4. Liverpool are still a team that is rebuilding and signings kids most of the time ie Liverpool are kidding at the moment and are building for future seasons, pun unintended.

I don't think Suarez is so stupid so as to ignore the progress that Rodgers is achieving here. I think his concern will be whether the progress is quick enough and specifically whether CL qualification is a reality this season.

Luis Suarez: Liverpool reject £30m Arsenal bid for striker

I agree with Tony Barrett when he says -

Can only surmise that Arsenal's £30m bid for Suarez is tactical to try and convince Real they have options other than Higuain.

Players don't wait around for long term progress to arrive. Suarez is at his prime and will want to play in the CL - the progress we made last season is very minimal and Suarez has given us two seasons without CL.

Without real quality arriving then CL isn't a reality ( just my opinion ) and Suarez will see that. Buy a couple of real quality players and we might turn his head a little.

If Real madrid dont want him I cant see where he will go. Bayern Possibly but they really havent made any noise. PSG will sign Cavani and along with Zlatan I cant see them fitting all 3 players in. Monaco with Falcao already there that would be a very strong strike force but without CL football surely he wont consider moving there. Then with him saying its not Liverpool but the English media he wants to get away from that surely rules out City,Chelsea and Arsenal. Barcelona signing Neymar and Already having Messi cant see them showning any intrest. Juventus now have Llorente and Tevez.

Maybe he may stay

Its clear he dont wish to stay at our club.its bull saying he would not play for another prem team.aa long as they are in the cl he dont care who they are
He tried to get us to sell him by taking a bite at another player and that did not work....he slagged off the british press and that did not work....he said he was doing a deal with another club ...that did not work.
Can we just get shot of him now and buy a player that would like to be here.

funnily enough i think luis will have the last word in this saga and i wonder just how far fenway will go to make him stay ?.

3 years left on the contract gives the club a hell of a lot of leverage over this situation, so unless they are complete muppets they are very much in control. Suarez loves the game far to much to be a sulky git, he wants to play so it wouldn't be a Torres situation.
I'm actually starting to think he may stay especially if we get the Armenian.

Suarez at one stage took a club to court to force a move through so nothing should be rules out when it comes to him

Did he win, if so how??? LFC and Suarez have a legally binding contract, it would take one hell of a lawyer to break it, and ieven f he did he would be rather unpopular with the premiership, uefa and fifa as it would probably rule all player contracts null and void overnight.

The club sold him to Ajax - so he got what he was looking for.

That doesn't automatically mean he'd do it with us.

It doesn't - but it shows what he is capable of trying - hence why I would never rule out him trying something if he really does want to get away

You're making it sound as though he will do it - hardly ruling anything out.
