Luis Muriel is far from the finished product and still unproven as yet - not sure on the big clamour for him as yet.

Again Sturridge has had countless injuries in his career so far - goes through spurts of goals then slumps in his short career so far - the difference in ability between the top strikers and Sturridge is quite clear. He had a burst with Bolton then with Chelsea and had with us but is he really in the mould of the top strikers - not for me he isn't

Sturridge is a good player to have in our squad - has the ability to play across the front free and will get us a decent amount of goals but IMO he isn't top class , he isn't good enough to lead a top team into the CL , he won't give the club enough game breaking moments , he doesn't have enough in his locker for that but definitely a guy to have in the squad to rotate with other players.

It is a squad game - the Mancs had 3 strikers - 2 quality ones yet went and spent £20mil plus on another. With the amount of suspensions and injuries and games throughout the season we can't start a season with a forward line if Suarez goes that we currently have.

well i cant be @rsed going through it all again how the best sides get goals from all over the place, you seem obsessed with CF`s when we should be bringing players in who can get goals from the wide positions in the front 3 and midfield, that way we dont break up what we already have.
i dont think we are planning on bringing in a CF anyway, we havent been linked with any.
if suarez goes it looks like brendan will go for mkhitaryan to replace him which i agree with, just a pity muriel wasnt coming as well, if i thought those 2 were arriving i`d gladly wave goodbye to suarez.

I know we need goals from all over the pitch - hence bringing in Henrik to play in the middle of midfield ahead of Gerrard and Lucas - not as a replacement for Suarez.

Currently our number one forward is Suarez - he produces moments for us and if he leaves he needs replacing with a proven quality striker/forward not someone like Muriel who is far from proven and isn't a heavy scorer. We lose a talisman , a big player and he needs replaced by someone of the same ability.

The best sides do get goals from all over the pitch - but they also have a proven high quality marque forward - lose Suarez and we won't have one.

This is all dependant on Suarez going - we need Henrik anyway regardless of what happens to Suarez.

I don't want Luis to go but to date he has served 12 games of his combined 18 match ban and the record is: won 8 lost 2 drawn 2

Sturridge is either brilliant or abysmal. There doesn't see to be any inbetween. Injuries are a problem and that shouldn't be ignored.

A lot of talk in this thread about attacking options, which makes sense because that seems what we are linked to.  We actually scored at a pretty damned impressive rate after the arrival of Sturridge and Coutinho.  Granted if Suarez goes we will need to address that area.  I'm more worried about the other end of the pitch.  let's face it.  We were absolutely shocking at times at the back last season.  And that was with Carra.

I love Carra to death, but I have doubts that he was able to lead the back line like some give credit for.  I feel he wasn't as strong as some believe, and that of the two Agger was the stronger.  If Agger was stronger, and our defense was absolutely shocking at times last season, I feel some of that has to be accredited to Carra.

With that said, his experience will be missed, and we really, really need a top, top center back to take over for him.  Kolo may get more play time than we anticipate, but we really need the best CB we can get, and money can't be the obstacle that gets in the way.

I'd also chalk some , actually a lot of our defensive woes last season to the approach to the game.  I remember having mental fits against City (even West Brom) seeing our fullbacks up past the midfield line while our CB's were on the ball.

We did tighten things up later in the season and I think Carra was a big part of that. 

That said, what has it been, 10 years since we all didn't shlt ourselves every time we give away a corner?  Maybe not that long, but near it.  Ever since Sammy wasn't a staple in the back line our defending on set pieces has been abysmal.

joking arent you Reg, sorting out the defence should be our number 1 priority, ordinary players like lambert, long, walters and cole caused us all sorts of trouble with their physical presence last season and thats without mentioning the good players like benteke and even vertonghen who had us at sixes and sevens at the back with their ariel ability.
this is the worst liverpool defence i`ve seen in terms of defending crosses etc, the team in the 90`s took some stick but the likes of john scales, niel ruddock and mark wright were alot better than carragher, agger and skrtel in the air, it`s just that they were up against the likes of duncan ferguson, niall quinn, dion dublin and brian deane. i shudder to think what those types of players would do against the defence we have now, even oscar and evra scored headers direct from set pieces against us!

hard not to be a bit disappointed when a club like southampton look to be on the verge of signing such a highly rated young player (who can play CB as well btw) whilst we spend almost twice as much on spanish second division players.
what adds insult to injury is that this is only southamptons second season back in the prem where as we havent finished outside the top 8 in the top flight in over half a century yet we are the ones scrambling around for bargains?
i hope the club knows what it`s doing, we could have had wanyama and ericksson this window for a little over £20m but we spend that much on names that sent our fans heading for youtube and wiki to find out who the hell they are.
wanyama has played in the CL and had a stormer against barca, he is a massive threat in both boxes, unbelievable that we arent considering buying him, especially at £12m.
