If you want to judge a season just on the league then it was progress.

we've progressed mate no doubt about it. Some will obviously be controversial and awkward just because it's in their nature. But progress has been made if you look at our league position etc which is what we're all on about.

At the start of the season the club entered into 4 competitions not just the league

The "season" ( as it states in the thread title ) is encompassing all the competitions the club enters into and the "seasons" assessment is about the whole "season" and not just one competition

So looking at all 4 competitions we entered into the club has stood still competively - progress in one competition and backwards steps in 2 more with another competition have no comparison to last season.

Last season we finished 8th , won the Carling Cup , got to the final of the FA Cup and qualified for Europe

This season we reached 7th , knocked out in early rounds of both domestic cups , failed to qualify for Europe

Results wise I would take last seasons every time.

Our attacking threat has improved in the majority of games but our defending has gone backwards

:Oo:

but in the league we have made progress also as a team we have improved personnel with the introduction of Sturridge and Courtinho. Our overall playing style has improved and continues to improve. BR has improved by the learning curve he's undergone this season. A couple more key signings this summer and we'll improve further for next season. we also shifted some deadwood however there is still one or two left hanging around.

So...

League - PROGRESS
Cups - NO PROGRESS
Personnel - PROGRESS
BR - PROGRESS

Again I have said we did make progress in the league

As for style and personnel progress that for me is only judged on the results gained

So whilst we may at times look more threatening we have also at times looked more vunerable at the back where as last season it was the opposite - struggled up front but solid at the back.

I would prefer to win 1 nil than draw 4-4.

The judgements is down to the results on the pitch in all competitions
