Not very excited about Countinho. Not a prem material IMO. I must admit though, I am often wrong :D

obviously we cant go out and buy a falcao or messi so we need to buy these stars before they turn into £50m supernova`s.
in other words we need to gamble.
well, the way i look at it is if we have to gamble at least lets gamble on ridiculously skillfull south americans
yes, there are genuine questions about wether he`s strong enough and i know the lads career has stalled a bit at inter but is that really a surprise at 20? he`s only a few months older than wisdom!
the lad has got immense raw talent (he`s like a mini ronaldinho) and personally i think he`s worth gambling on, if he turns out to be a flop then so be it, at least we aimed high.
but if we get lucky and he does come good we could have one of the best players in the world on our hands.

This is EXACTLY the type of risk we should be taking and the same drum I have been beating for a while now. Its unfortunate that some of the "fans" on this forum can't see that this is the only way we can gradually improve, seeing as we can't compete with the likes City, Cheatski and Manure financially.

I am also gobsmacked at the stupid Ingish mentality. People comparing this lad to the likes of Ince is f**king laughable.   You can't compare this very talented 20yo that has been scouted and signed by the likes of Inter, gone on to ply his trade in La Liga to a guy plodding around the lower leagues in England  :no

Also what's with this "but he is slight of build so he will struggle in the premier league" rubbish. Are you guys stuck in a time warp or something? This isn't the 1960s. Small guys like Makelele, Modric, Owen have excelled in the past. I don't see current players like  Mata, Cazorla, Aguero putting their hands up saying they "aren't up for it". What abosolute nonsense, if a player is skillful and adaptable they can play in any league, anywhere and excel.

For Carroll represents a plan B, even if he is restricted to cup games and tricky physcial league games like Stoke, Everton, etc

id have andy back no bother because he does give us that option of a plan B especially against the physical sides but it isnt our call.
rodgers does'nt see him as part of his plans so ive resigned myself to him being gone.

it would be a silly move on our behalf to sign another 20 year old central midfielder with "potential" when we already have one in the ranks that we dont seem to know what to do with.
up the bid for ince who can make a difference for us this season and will push or oust downing for a starting spot :nod

coutinho is on a different planet to ince in terms of potential mate, this lad was being compared to the likes of ronaldinho when he was coming through the ranks in brazillian football. his career has stalled a bit at inter but he had a loan spell at espanyol at the end of last season where he looked very impressive.
ince and coutinho are the same age and not far off the same price but the difference between them is one of them has impressed in the lower league`s against the likes of peterborough whilst the other impressed at the nou camp v barcelona.
the espanyol supporters loved him, they thought he was brilliant.
ince has got the potential to be a good player but it just shows how over priced english players are when coutinho`s asking price is only a couple of million more than the fee blackpool want for ince!
and texeira has been injured but he`s back now and really playing well, i was reading a few comments over on rawk about him and apparently the lad has got amazing vision, everyone`s raving about him over there.

my point is that we already have teixeira who is highly rated also and we will spend another £10 mil on another lad who is similar to him. just because he plays for inter doesnt necessarily mean an awful lot. they signed him in 2010 and he played 20 odd games in a league that isnt physical, and then farmed out on loan to espanyol. now inter are willing to sell him and if he was the next "ronaldinho" why would they be willing to sell, especially for £10mil or less.they signed him when he was 16 and left him in brazil for 2 years then kept him for one, hardly the future of inter that moratti claimed. why isnt espanyol interested either at that price and how do we know he isnt another sahin in disguise.
if we are as broke as the owners and manager are preaching then i would rather we focused on bringing teixera through seen as we already have him.
ince on the other hand has been an ever present fixture in a blackpool side in a physical league and is well able to handle the step up. he is a natural winger who has a 1 in 3 goal return and thats what we need from our wide areas. the only problem with the ince deal is that cretin of a man karl oyston and his greed.
if we have the money to sign both then im all for it but if we dont then id take ince who imo will strengthen an area we need to if we want to push this season for 4th. it could take a year for coutinho to get to grips with the league and thats my only concern.
now if we were looking to get joao moutinho then id say stuff ince :nod

signed by the likes of inter eds but they are willing to sell after the lad had only one season with them so what does that tell you.they arent pulling up trees in the serie A either and after losing sneijder you would think they would be keen to hang on to the next ronaldinho. the physicality of the italian league is nothing compared to the championship if you ever watched it, and not as fast either.
im not one of those that think a player is useless just because his height is below 5'10 and those players you mentioned are all slight but all established with other clubs before moving to england and for longer than a season as well.with the exception of owen of course.
im not against signing him but would rather we focused on an area that we need to strengthen rather than overcrowd the midfield with more hopefuls.
when we signed texiera he was also touted as a brilliant prospect so why not give him a shot at fulfilling the potential he has.

I really think we should be looking at the 'established' players right now as opposed to the 'prospects'. We already have a few prospects and if were not careful we're could end up like Villa. We need to find the balance and I think a couple of older heads (26-28) ideally would be the way to go - this Coutinho deal is risky and I don't think we can afford to take that kind of risk in January.

Thats the world we live in.

Whilst we are not in the CL and the extra revenues are not there, FSG will not spend big money on experienced players. This leaves us with more risky punts of prospects. The gamble may or may not work, however if it does work out we will have re-qualified for CL at a fraction of the cost that other clubs would have had to spend, to achieve the same thing.

I'm confident that an LFC in CL would see FSG spending more money in the transfer market.

Established players?

Michu.  £2m.  Where were all the big clubs going for him?
Cabaye...cheeky totty, diame,  hernandez, etc etc.
Just cus a player is "only" (lol) £10m, and hasn't set the world on fire, doesnt mean he won't become the next big star.
Van Persie signed at Arsenal at 21 for £2.75m......!!

Signing established stars like Torres for £50m, Villa for £20m (who has never played in the prem and has no resale value), Morientes, Robinho etc etc is far far more risky than buying a kid with promise for £10m on low wages.

by the sounds of it the coutinho deal has hit a snag.
the lad himself has apparently told the press that he doesnt want to leave inter as well which is never a good sign.
the echo were pretty confident yesterday that a deal would happen but to paraphrase harold mcmillan 24 hours is a long time in football.

I don't understand why you guys think that Countinho would be a good signing. Have you even seen him play or just the youtube videos? From what I've seen from him he goes missing in most games like he isn't there. Note that this happens to him in the Italian league. If he comes to the prem he'll probably end up like far better players than him, the likes of Raul Meireles and more recently Nuri Sahin. Both are good players but they just weren't Premier League material. And don't misunderstand me, him being slim built has nothing to do with it.

His decision making sucks as well.

I wouldn't mind taking a small gamble with him for a low price and low wages, but we already have enough future prospect kids and most of them look better than Coutinho so what's the point of signing him? We also need strengthening in the squad with a bit more experienced players in some positions. I'd rather we concentrate on that first.

Pretty sure that's just him making sure he doesn't upset the Inter fans in case he ends up staying. Borini said something similar before joining us.

rumours on s'hitter are that we have submitted a final take it or leave it bid to inter for coutinho. a decision is expected by this evening.
this could happen as rumours are also circulating that inter have agreed terms to sign younes belhanda from montpellier as a replacement

Joao Carlos Teixeira is very different to Coutinho. Teixeira is a Deco style player who plays in the middle 3 and is all about one touch passing and vision. Although Coutinho has played in a number of positions I think he will end up being more of a wide forward (competing with Downing and Sterling) as he is a fantastic dribbler with pace and loads of tricks.
